Automatic Sound Levelizer Work at All?

2022 XLE Premium w/ audio upgrade package.

The sound/volume leveler is binary--either on or off; I don't see any settings for levels (low, med, high).

When driving with high road and wind noise and then coming to a complete stop, there is absolutely no change in the audio system volume. If I set the volume high to compensate for wind/road noise, when I slow down the volume is too high. If I set the volume low to compensate for low wind/road noise, when I get up to speed the volume is too low.

I complained about this to the service advisor at my first oil change and was told "the system is within Toyota specifications."

I really liked this feature in my Acura RDX--is it a feature in name only on the RAV4?

It’s would seem to me as preposterous that the upgraded audio system would have less features in this regard. All previous cars with ASL (mostly Acura) included levels of ASL, not just on or off. I have grown to really like this feature and not having it on brand new RAV4 is just another on a growing list of annoyances.

I don’t use this feature…. Maybe we can swap head unit if you like? Lol

According to my 2019 manual, there is a Type A and B. I too have the Premium sound system and it's a Type B On/Off setting

My 2019 base XLE had the multiple sub-options (7 inch pioneer) my 2020 Limited with Premium JBL just has on/off (8 inch denso ten)

I've noticed zero difference between the two in my 2020 so I just leave it off. 🙄

I realize this is an old thread, I hope I don't annoy too many people. What is the policy on whether to start a new thread?

I too have this problem with ASL in my 2020 RAV4 Limited with 8" JBL head unit, and only on/off choices. I've had my dealer looking at this. How they test it is set a specific volume e.g. 5 (the value is displayed when you turn the vol. kob) and then go for a high speed test drive, and manually adjust the volume. In this case they can see the volume increases from 5, where they originally set it, indicating it was stuck on 5. It's been into the dealer 3 times. Yesterday (the 3rd time) they replaced the head unit, but the problem persists. They told me the Shop Forman/Quality Assurance Manager is going to reach out to Toyota for guidance and they will get back to me.

I'm no expert, but I suspect the vehicle speed changes are somehow not getting to the head unit.

Edit: I've since read elsewhere that the JBL unit with on/off only settings uses the interior microphones to sense road noise changes and subsequently adjust volume. Non-JBL units with low/mid/high settings use the vehicle speed sensors.

Mine does NOT seem to work. I have never heard of anyone that said theirs worked.
