I didn't think end users could get the "Professional Diagnostic" subscription. There still is the issue of needing the $1545 Techstream Lite cable (which does come with a one year Professional Diagnostic subscription). Maybe it was black market cables I had heard about.
You can buy the Mongoose cable without the subscription and then just buy a 2-day subscription. That’s what I did to apply the update that stopped the heat pump train horn noise.

Can the carista app be used to calibrate/correct the speedometer? Since apparently Toyota speedometers seem to indicate a higher mph than true mph.

If yes, can one correct for different tire sizes as well? And would any of these programming changes (if they are possible with carista) also affect the odometer readings?

So l am really confused, a carista OBD device plus another app can, or cannot, change speedometer calibration?
I was only answering the question as to what is used if the speed can be changed. I have never changed the speed display on my RAV4, but I have changed lots of other settings.

All these devices are two parts: the hardware part that plugs into the OBD II port, and a software part that communicates with the car's computers via the hardware part. They work together. This is what I got, a Techstream clone. Comes with both the software and hardware parts: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097YC5LSR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

In general, the software part is a program run on a lap top computer, not an app on a smart phone.

In June 2022, the Carista module and app did not provide a change option to the speed display. Interestingly, my Scangauge displays car reported speed that agrees with Waze gps speed, while the cars speedo lies by about plus 2 mph at 60. Scangauge gets its data from the cars obd port, so the car knows the correct speed, but chooses to lie to the driver’s display. My wife’s 2012 Camry speedo was spot on. I suppose that says something about trends in liability and driving skills.

Thanks, this is fascinating. So, based on the data that you've seen, is the odometer and odometer trip data that is displayed on the current gen rav4P and visible to the driver, is that accurate or also intentionally fudged?

I don’t know about the odometer. If it is incorrect by the same amount as the dash speedo, the warranty ends prematurely. A benefit to the manufacturer. And insurance companies that base your billing rate on mileage reported driven. I’ve dealt with health insurance companies for decades and they take every edge than can get away with. They have stolen tens of thousands of dollars from me. Sumbeeches.

Not to mention that, if the odometer numbers are falsified, ALL the mpg numbers are conveniently inflated. Not just the ones from the guess-o-meter, but even the manual back-of-the-envelope calculations one might do at the gas pump.

Crazy.

Some folks in this thread mention using Carista to customize the blinker settings. But I am not sure, what blinker settings are you adjusting? And in what driving situations does this apply?
When you flick the turn signal quickly (lane change mode), it normally created 3 flashes. You can change the number of flashes up to 7 if you prefer.

Interesting, another poster is saying that the 'car scanner app' can change the speedometer?
That's odd, because there is no mention of speedometer adjustment at the Car Scanner website that I can find. Usually by "calibration" these OBD-II tools mean they will check the calibration, not change the calibration. But I'd be happy to see some evidence that the speedometer readings can be offset/corrected with an OBD-II tool. I'd like to do it if that's possible.

The Car Scanner FAQ says:
Q: Speed displayed in Car Scanner is not correct!
A: First of all: Car Scanner doesn’t measure speed. It just displays speed, that is measured by your car ECU from speed sensor.

Totally believe you. I was just reading what this poster wrote:

"l bought the Veepeak OBD-II scan Tool on Amazon and it uses the Car Scanner app, the Carista app, or the OBD Fusion app for the iPad and iPhone. So you have choices and when I bought it the OBD-II scanner was cheaper than the Carista at Amazon. I just download the apps and did the one month free Carista app to set various thing on the RAV4. I used the Car Scanner App to reset the speedometer to show the true speed vs the Toyota 2 MPH safety error percentage and correct for the larger diameter tires, Falken Wildpeak AT Trail."

From this thread:

I am interested in the Blinker 3 to 7 flash. Is it one jump or is there a middle option, aka 5 flashes??
Also is there a way to get increasingly loud if I leave the blinker on too long. Getting hard of hearing or something but of late if the thingamobbler doesnt reseat/turn off, then the blinker stays on while driving until I notice it. Would be happy with louder in general but it would be nice if moving, the blinker woudl get louder over time.

It can be set to 3,4,5,6 or 7.

The blinker does not get louder, just the comments from your passengers. :sneaky:
