This is my first thread here but I am not new to forums and the general rules. I have searched relentlessly for Bluetooth threads and anything related, and have performed a couple quick things suggested which I'll explain below.

I have a brand new 2021 Prime XSE Premium Package w/ Options and I love it, except for the fact I am constantly struggling to either get Bluetooth to connect on my iPhone at all, or it tries multiple times and when it does finally connect and I'm in the middle of a phone call, the person on the other end gets a solid 5-7 seconds of silence while it connects. I have had Bluetooth adapters in other vehicles that connect immediately and other vehicles with Bluetooth that connect without issue.

I have tried deleting the phone entirely from the system and erasing contacts. I have removed the Rav4 from my phone and repaired. I have also held down the volume button for a few seconds to perform a soft restart.

What the heck is happening??? It's driving me nuts and I really just want my $50k car to connect to my phone without issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's due for its first service so I was going to bring it up when I take it to the dealer but, until then, I'd like to try all my options. What am I missing??

Thanks everyone!!

Go to this link and see if Toyota has released a new software update. My last update for my 2019 was for Bluetooth connectivity issues so there might be one for you 2021. Have you VIN number ready so it can pull updates for your specific vehicle build:

I'm having a similar issue with my 2019 Rav4 Premium. Something so simple as bluetooth connection shouldn't be an issue with a $30k vehicle. My bluetooth is in an out when playing almost sounding like it's skipping. When I click on the software upgrade it says my software is current. This is definitely an irritating issue.

Are you checking for software updates in the car software or on the Toyota web site? Mine kept saying no updates in the car but there was an update for mine in November of 2021.

Still having the same issue. Sometimes connects immediately, sometimes after a few attempts, and sometimes not at all. This is crazy.

Anybody having this same issue? It cant be just me.
I'll second what JFox says, check his link in post #3. My 2020 had Bluetooth issues that occurred randomly and a firmware update fixed mine. No issues since.

Depending on when your Rav4 came off the assembly line, it may have the latest firmware already, but it is an easy thing to check on your own before reaching out to a dealer and going through the hassle of dropping it off, etc. You can verify your firmware version inside the infotainment settings screen then cross reference the file name/version on the link Jfox provided.

I am still having this issue after I just picked my car up yesterday from the dealership. They did a software update and said it was fixed. It is not. I have tried multiple devices. I can connect my phone eventually, but I cannot accept or decline incoming calls from the screen. I can only accept or deny from my actual phone. When I do accept my screen still says "incoming call" on the screen with the options of "accept" or "decline" although I'm already talking to the person who called. I also cannot hang up the phone using my car's screen. I have to wait for the person to hang up or hang up on my phone. If I get a call coming in while I'm already on the phone, that person's information doesn't even pop up on the screen even after clicking over. It still has "incoming call" from the first person who called. The only "fix" I've found is to disconnect my Bluetooth and reconnect it to refresh the screen each time I have a call.

I suggest that you bring your iPhone to an Apple store and ask them to diagnose your problem. I had similar problems with my Prime and iPhone. The dealer spent much time trying to get them to work correctly. After no success with the dealer’s efforts, I made an appointment and the Apple store technician fixed the 5 year old iPhone for free. It’s worth trying.

@Roydc I have a Samsung phone and mine does connect, but the screen in the car does not allow me to select anything to answer or decline a call. I have another service appointment with the dealership this week after they "fixed" the issue yesterday.
Sorry for the confusion. I was directing my suggestion to Birdco85. If your Samsung phone has a problem then updating the car software will not solve your problem. Consider getting your phone checked out if the attempts by the dealership don’t work. You might use another Samsung phone to see if it works any better than yours. My problem was caused by a software problem in my phone. The dealership updated and reset my car but that didn’t work until I got my phone repaired. I hope these suggestions are helpful. Good luck 👍

here is the phone number to call Toyota. I was told for everyone on here to call 800-331-4331 & your own dealership to complain. The more complaints the sooner Toyota will fix this issue.

I have a new 2024 rav4 and I have intermittent Bluetooth connectivity. Has latest software so unsure of why this is the case. Also have iPhone 12 so not a super old phone . It’s maddening that Toyota can’t get it right. Had I known I would have stuck with Mazda . Never had any issues and much better customer service. Dealership have been rude and disinterested…

Have you tried unpairing your phone and then pairing it again?

Yes I tried that a few times . Sometimes it connects and other times it doesn’t and I have to reconnect manually. I’ve also tried to tell dealership as it’s 8 weeks old but they have been very unhelpful and shrugged and said it’s Toyota system issue . We are so disappointed as we bought two cars expecting Bluetooth to be seamless and both has this issue . One is android and the other is iphone.
