Curious how many of you are doing your own Tire rotations? I am coming up to my first 5k miles and considering doing them myself rather than have dealership
scratch up the rims and possibly over-torque the bolts. Thoughts ?

I do them myself, only because I put snow tires on in the late fall, so the next time I put the all seasons on they get rotated.
Same. I hated when the dealer would do tire rotations when we got our free oil change. Screwed up my whole rotation pattern.

Of the dealers we went to, none of them over torqued the lug nuts. I was very pleased with this. Different than some of the local tire shops that have. If I did not swap out my wheels/tires seasonally, I would be ok with the dealer rotating my tires if it was free and under toyota care still.

I do it myself and take the time as the rims are off to clean and seal.

If you use the factory jack points there is no need to worry about rubber anything.

I had a new Corolla Cross. Went to the dealer for the 1st service. Came back home and as I always do, went to re-torque the wheels and came to realize nobody has touched the tires. The dealer would not fess up to it. Offered another tire rotation with the caveat being "your tires would go back to the same spot!"
Anyway, I am doing my own work now. They can keep their free service, not worth my time to wait 3 hours in the showroom and come home to clean oil stains and rotate tires.

Yeah I'll chime in, I would let the dealer do the heavy lifting for the rotation. It clearly shows in the back of your manual the rotation sequence of the wheels. If you're skeptical on your dealership rotating properly just take a chalk and mark them. You will see that clearly when you go to pick your car up.
But like somebody else mentioned, just make sure they have torqued them properly and have torque results put on the service record. If the dealership is on the ball that will all be proper. Just my two cents.

I usually rotate the tires with every 10,000 miles oil change using fully synthetic oil. Sometimes I skip it if the tread depth at the front is still significantly better than the back. Would you rotate the tires regardless of tread wear, or postpone it until the next oil change interval?

I rotate ours every 5,000 miles regardless of wear. They are nearly always within 1/16 - 1/32" of wear on all 4 tires all the way to when they're replaced.

I do my rotations at home on our '23 and only use Toyota Care for the oil changes. I have a Google Sheet that I use to track maintenance mileage/dates etc and do them every ~5k.

Dealer scratched the hell out of the 19's on our 2020 RAV4 previously. They cut me a check to get them repaired but I don't want to go through that again.
