The original Radio/Navigation system om my 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid suffered from the known problem of decreasing response and even dead spots. Toyota told me this can be fixed by replacing the unit which would cost at least €600,-. With the available aftermarket Android systems completely new for that price really a no-go but some research showed that the touchscreen itself could be replaced solving the problem. As I’ve still 2 years of map upgrades from the last 3-year renewal I decided to give it ago. Attached a PDF with the steps needed and what touch screen to get. For less than €20,- including shipping I got myself a fully functional unit again! And you do not have to be an expert to get the job done....

Thats really a great post. Thank you very much. Since we have the same car/trim/year/color and who knows, even kilometers, i have no doubt your write up will come in handy at some point.
Thanks Pieter Jan. Yes, pearl white executive AWD, now some 115k km. First (Belgian) owner had the black plastic parts also sprayed pearl white, looks pretty good, especially after I added the chrome steel strip along the doors. Added the Audiotec Fischer amplifier and subwoofer and exchanged all the original speakers as the Belgian “Premium” version does not come with the JBL audio (moon roof is standard though…) so it’s now even better than that.
I thought I just make some pictures of the radio repair as it’s really easy to do and not expensive, only takes a lot of time to sort it out in the first place. I’m pretty sure more people will have this increasingly bad responsiveness of the touch screen, contact point slowly moving down to the point where you have to push almost below the display button etc. Once you know the solution and know how to get the unit out you can do it in roughly 1 hour. And probably other Toyota car models will have similar issues depending on use and age and OEM of the unit.

I'm glad I've come across this post as I have the exact same problem with the exact same car. Not many car audio places want to assist with repairing this issue or are able to source the actually digitizer screen. The only trouble I have is sourcing the correct 7 inch screen compatible with the this infotaintment system.
Thank you for this informative guide. I will no doubt have it save on my phone until I muster up the courage to change the actual screen.

Just wanted to thank you so much for sharing your guide! Was so informative and helpful. I took the plunge and ordered the exact same touchscreen from Aliexpress and replaced my faulty OEM screen. New one works so much better! Saved myself a ton of cash too!!
Thank you mate!!

Thanks for your detailed procedure. I now have a fully functioning touchscreen on my Rav4 with a new unit from AliExpress for just under £10. I would not have attempted this had I not come across your procedure - many thanks.

Thank you! Remmerv

This is a £850 post. Just bought a 2016 RAV4 Hybrid and the screen was shot. Could hardly enter information at all - just terrible! I went to the dealership, they only do exchange fixes they wanted £870 (plus £810 surcharge, returned once fixed). I saw this post and thought, why not? What could go wrong, If I break it I'd have to get it fixed anyway because it is already rubbish. Result is a fully working Touchscreen, nice and accurate. This post should go down in the halls of history! Instructions were very clear.
