What year is your Rav4?

The 1996-97 Rav4s' wiring is different from the 1998-2000 Rav4s'.

The fuse that powers the open door warning light powers a number of other items as well.

What problem is your Rav4 having?
Sorry my bad, its a '99. The lock/latch on the backdoor is broken and until I get it fixed I don't want to drain the battery with the open door warning light staying on, when I don't drive it.

From the wiring diagram, disconnecting the back door lamp courtesy switch should turn off the instrument cluster "open door" lamp. Below is a drawing from a Rav4 parts site that has some clues for locating the switch. In the drawing, look at the part with "group number" 84235:

The switch's exact part number is most likely 84231-42010. Google on the latter part number to get some idea of what you want to seek on your Rav4. You will likely have to remove some panels to get to the connector for the switch.

A red/white wire and black/white wire connect to the connector.

Down the road you might try testing the switch. In short: With the door open, the switch's connector should show continuity across its two pins. With the door shut, the connector should show open loop. The switch is probably stuck, such that there is always continuity across the two pins.
