Hi Rob, thanks for doing all the work and posting this thread! Earlier this year I bought a 2024 Rav4 XSE Hybrid in Canada and had a Comfort+ cabin warmer installed with the purchase - as you mentioned, the tech/techs at the dealership weren't incredibly familiar with it and how it works so I wasn't really educated on how to get it set up (that was a bit of a letdown, a customer like myself would hope that someone there would be able to help). Since it was coming up to springtime at the time of purchase I didn't really devote much time to figuring it out, what with the upcoming warmer weather and not much ice buildup on the windows. Now that winter is coming, I've gone back to trying to figure out how to get it configured; I literally have almost zero knowledge of how things work under the hood, and even though I'm pretty sure I have all the parts and cables somewhere to start the process, I'm actually sort of scared to plug things in here and there (if that's what I have to end up doing) because I'm paranoid I'm going to short something out and void a warranty or start a fire or something.

Anyway, yours is one of the only online tutorials I've been able to find anywhere that explains anything about it and it's very much appreciated. I don't think I could do a fraction of the work that you did! When it's daylight out and I have time to spare I'll give it another go but at least I know that someone else out there has it figured out.

No worries. If it came preinstalled then you should be good. The only thing you need to do is hook it up via Bluetooth and configure the departure time. After that it is plug in and forget.

Nice writeup! did the comfort plus come with an inline fuse, if so, where is it on the supplied wiring harness? my comfort plus that was dealer installed on my 2022 tundra stopped working, worked fine last winter, this year nothing. i can connect to the app but the app says 'truck is not plugged in'. It is, and tried a different toyota cord as well. The app shows the battery voltage as well. Interior heater does not work on manual switch. I'm wondering if the 5a fuse that the wiring summary shows is blown, but for the life of me I can't find it. Or its a connection issue between the bumper and the 'brain', or the brain 120v input itself is toast.

The Fuse is in line with that eye in this picture. This wire is suppose to go to the fuse panel where it is bolted down. If you see this end on a nut in the fuse panel just follow the wire. Odds are it come up through the bottom. Since the fuse would be too big, to enter in through the hole and how short that section of wire is, it may be under the fuse panel.

So I think I am ready for my conclusion. I have my -30c numbers. I have noticed a flaw in my testing. My wife has been off work this winter so I have actually been using it so my personal thoughts after seeing the numbers.

First off my last round of numbers.
Results:
Start TempStart TimeDeparture Temp OutsideDeparture Temp in CabinTime UnpluggedDeparture TimeStart Time to Departure
-27.8°C (-18.04°F)3:35 AM-31°C (-23.8°F)-9.1°C (15.62°F)7:34 AM7:35 AM3h 59m

Here is my flaw.
I forgot to put in a comparison baseline between the Govee, my Lennox A/C outdoor Temp sensor, the Defa sensor and the vehicle dash.

Feb. 15, 2025 @ 6:42 am
Govee -26°C (-14.8°F)
Rav4 Prime -23°C (-9.4°F)
Defa -22°C (-7.6°F)
Lennox A/C -25.5°C (-13.9°F)

Note: the Lennox screen rounds the temperature to the nearest .5. If I were to dig deeper into the unit, it could be more granular. What tipped me off was the day that showed -31.5°C on the Lennox, the Defa app showed -26°C. The Govee and the Lennox system, which was used for most of this, are pretty much on par. The Defa and the Rav4 are similar, but still a degree out from one another. The Defa/Rav4 are different by a fair amount on the warmer side then the Govee/Lennox. The current outdoor weather from the local weather report tends to agree more with the Govee/Lennox. Without calibration tools you may make of this what you will. From my perspective, the numbers I have are close enough and does not sway my opinion.

My person experience
It is nice to be able to hop in an go. Even if it does not get above freezing the temperature increase is still better after walking around the car unplugging everything and opening the gate. The biggest selling point was the day I forgot to plug in everything. it was -25°C (-13°F) outside. There was frost on the inside of the glass. Even though it wasn't that bad in the driveway, when I pulled out into the back lane and started driving, the sun popped out and I was blinded. I had to pull over on the side street to let the car warm up. Also turning the corner, the heated steering wheel what much more noticeable when turning off of the back lane to the side street to park. When turning the corner, the not heated section was a stark contrast in temperatures and not in a good way.

This was in a middle of a cold snap, the other -25°C days around it with the Defa plugged in did not have frost on the inside and the ambient temperature improved the steering wheel contrast. The system may only get about 20°C warmer then the outside temperature but that makes a big difference. If you are not waring glove, If you go from heated steering wheel to a part that is -25 while turning a corner, your hands feel it. While not perfect, 20°C warmer is more comfortable while driving and you can just get up and go. No scraping or waiting.

On a warmer snowier day, when sweeping the snow off, the sunroof and window had a thin layer of water between the car and the snow. the snow swept right off.

I now know why it is wife approved.

My conclusion
Not perfect. The numbers feel worse on paper. Dealerships are clueless. Toyota does not properly document it. Unit feels like it is holding back. Battery maintainer in cold weather is nice. Wife approved. I like it. I actually feel it was worth it.

I cant see me adding anything else from here. If any admin/moderator is following, I would like to publish a second cleaned up review. Let me know how to go about this. I feel it this thread is a bit long to follow and could use a cleaning up. also I can see this being useful for more then just Rav4 Prime/PHEV owners.

Excellent info here - very detailed, but as you said, not as clear as it could be if you cleaned it up. I support your suggestion to start a new thread with the detailed instructions in clear order of installation with your back up findings.
