I switched from a iPhone 12 Pro to a iPhone 16 Pro on September 20th. Prior to that I had rarely ever experienced a CarPlay connectivity issue. I deleted my 12 Pro from my '23 RAV4 XLE and added my new 16 Pro. I've yet to actually get it to work as it should. Not connecting at all. Not allowing me to set up the 16 Pro as my primary device even though no devices at synced to it anymore.

Anyone else have this issue?

I'm having the same issue with my iPhone 16 pro and 2022 Rav4. When I try to connect to play music via bluetooth I get player not connected even though the Rav4's screen shows the current song on my phone. When I try to connect via usb it charges but takes about 5-10 tries or a few minutes (I'm not able to reproduce the issue consistently) to get carplay to work. My wife has a 16 pro max and it seems to work as intended (at least the carplay part).

Seems there is a lot of people with iPhone 16 to CarPlay issues. Rather than list various fixes for the issues on this board, here is the link from the Apple community board with various fixes. iPhone 16 and CarPlay issues.
I did notice the cable is the problem with many users as some cables are for charging only and don't support data transfer.

FWIW, I got my iPhone 16 PM almost as soon as it came out, and it works with wireless CarPlay just as perfectly as my iPhone 15 PM did. So it's not guaranteed that everyone will have a problem.

Well wired CarPlay does not work on a 2021 RAV4
My CarPlay works just fine on my '21 RAV4. but then I have a wired to wireless adapter and "only" an iPhone 11 (latest IOS 18.1) Does having the adapter and an older iPhone make a difference?

IPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 13 and our iPhone 16 Pro issues with CarPlay in 2023 XLE ICE and two 2024 Limiteds ICE.

1) Bluetooth connection is lost between 3 times per minute to once per hour. It may reconnect automatically seconds later or will not.

2) Voice texts and Siri commands are only playing out of driver’s side top of dash near A-pillar speaker. So if music is playing at anything other than low volume, you cannot make out the word spoken. Also in downtown in city of highway speeds, also cannot hear words clearly even if you adjust volume to max when words are spoken. For Google maps and Toyota maps, the voice instructions comes out of bothe driver’s side and passenger side top of dash speaker so no issue there. Toyota needs to do an update for all voice texts, Siri, etc to come out of bothe driver’s side right and left dashA-pillar speakers as it does for Google Maps and Toyota navigation.

3) Only with iPhone 16 Pro, when voice texting and vehicle is repeating my text verbally, it either doesn’t and it is completely silent or it repeats only the first 2-3 words maximum then silence. Less than 50% of the time does it work properly where it repeats my text verbally and give me the option both verbally and on screen to “Cancel”,” Change” or “Send”.
On iPhone 13 and iPhone 16 Pro we have, intermittently but regularly (more often with iPhone 16 Pro, get a voice message “cannot show the result to you while you are in the car” while trying to send a text or do other tasks like create a calendar appointment, etc in CarPlay. Also regularly get a voice message saying “it says” then silence when it should be reading a voice text.

Issues were frustrating before with IPhone 8 and iPhone 13 but now it is much worse with my new iPhone 16 Pro

Hi,

Answering from Quebec, so my English could be faulty…

For problems with IPhone & Maps, here is the solution that worked for me…

Apple Store, be sure Maps is up to date…

Then Settings, security & confidentiality, go to Localisation, turn off, deep breath 😮‍💨, and turn on again…
Did work fine, even after restarting the
Rav 4…
Hope it will work for you…

I checked under settings on my up to date Google Maps app. There is no Security and Confidentaility listing there.

Just to add my 2 cents: My iPhone 12 Pro Max & iPhone 14 Pro Max worked beautifully with Bluetooth in my 2020 Rav 4 LE. CarPlay via wired was mostly hit & some miss, mostly due to older cables.

However my new iPhone 16 Pro Max works 100% wired with CarPlay, but 0% with Bluetooth; that's why I'm here. Not sure who blew it but I sure hope someone gets around to fixing it.
