Coolant Bypass Valve - dealer told me warranty extended

Just throwing this out there since I haven’t previously heard about this. I’m at the dealer this morning getting the roof rail leak addressed on my 2019 RAV4 XLE with 50k miles. Out of warranty obviously.

The service rep came and told me that I needed the bypass valve replaced too which I already knew. I was planning on getting this done at an independent mechanic that quoted me $600 for the job after a different Toyota dealership previously quoted $1100. I told him this and he said “well they just extended the warranty on the bypass valve too, so we can go ahead and take care of it if you want” - so I’m getting it replaced no charge by Toyota.

Might be worth looking into if you have this Engine Maintenance Required warning on your MID. Maybe it’s a mistake on the dealers part since I can’t find anymore info about this online and i haven’t heard anything since there was talk of a class action, but just spreading the word.

Great news...thanks for posting. We really need the new Customer Support Program/warranty extension identification numbers for the coolant bypass valve free replacement. Without a copy of it in hand dealers across the U.S. will pretend ignorance and continue to charge outrageous fees for this repair.

Note on your invoice, item #1 is for the roof rails and to the right it says "warranty"

Item #2 is for the multi-point inspection and to the right it says "warranty"

But for item #3, which is the bypass valve, it does not say "warranty".

Looks like they fixed the P code (water valve issue) for free, Toyota paid for it.
I assume dealers were told to do it if a vehicle comes in for some work.
It's probably a silent fix by Toyota, so not to crush dealer serice centers with people bringing in the Rav for a valve fix.

Only 1.40 hrs for the valve labor.

And as already noted in post behind this one, the ink does not say warranty for valve fix. So perhaps dealer did it for free (not likely) or it's a silent fix paid for by Toyota. I bet ya that dealer is online and reads all about the valve issue and class action suit, and to keep their customers happy the dealer too found Toyota response to be cra-pola, so they did the fix.

But I am curious to know, was the valve issue actually fixed (the part)?
Someone please verify from the other threads, 16260-F0010 was a supercede part, now we have 16260-F0300 ? A new part? "let Mikey try it" ?

Could be a NEW DESIGN bypass valve! Weird invoice .It does actually say "warranty" twice for two items about the bypass valve. BUT LOOK AT THAT PART NUMBER for the coolant bypass valve assembly!! It is different than the old number we have seen for years. On invoice it says 16260-F0300. The old part number was 16260-F0010.

UPDATE e-mail response from dealership. Looks like time was on my side for this one...:

Customer Support Program 24TE04 was just published on December 5, 2024. It applies to "Certain" 2019-2021 RAV4 produced Early March 2018 to Early February 2021 and several other models. As with all CSPs, it would cover the repair only if the part has failed with the DTCs specified in the Technical Instructions. The coverage is good through November 30, 2025 regardless of mileage, and after that date 10 years from DOFU or 100,000 miles. If someone has previously paid for the repair they can call Toyota Brand Engagement Center for reimbursement.

What about those who bought a F0010 (still a faulty part) direct from Dealer parts (approx $110us) and did DIY install? I wonder if Toyota delayed the warranty stuff so that people would just do it DIY?

I cannot find this Customer Support Program online. It was NOT in safercars.gov, the NHTSA database, the other day. Has anyone got a PDF yet? If it is anything like the other Toyota extended warranty support programs (roof rail leak, and "cablegate") it should contain a lot of information. There should also be a related TSB with technical info, repair details and photos or diagrams. To the Computer Geeks and lurking Toyota Service Techs on this forum--PLEASE POST A COPY OF CSP 24TE04!!

That is really strange because the same defective coolant bypass valve part #16260-F0010 was used on ALL 2019 through 2023 (and probably early 2024) RAV4s. Why would there be a February 2021 cut off? We really need to get a copy of the 24TE04 to see exactly what it says.

Usually. in a Customer Support Program previously paid for repairs are reimbursed. Another reason we need to see a copy of CSP 24TE04 to read its exact terms.

It can take several weeks for a new T-SB, T-TE or T-TT to show up in data bases outside Toyota. Obviously the dealers have a way to get it immediately. You could always ask your dealer to print it out for you.

Repairs by dealer? DIY'ers are not recognized. Toyota combats fraud, like if I bought F0010 at dealer for $110, sold it on eBay for $65, then asked Toyota for my $110 back.
I don't think we DIY'ers will get anything back.

Went to my dealer and got a print out of the customer support program 24TE04 (it was a hassle with the service department, but that is a another issue). I scanned it into a PDF file, but unfortunately, it is too large a file and this forum's server will not let me attach it. Not sure how to post it with that size limitation; perhaps I can leave off the last few pages which are just "questions and answers".

Somethings to note:
1. There is an associated T-SB-0112-24 with instructions for the installation of the new valve, but that also does not show up on a search.
2. The part number of the new valve is 16260-F0310.
3. It covers only through February 2021 for they hybrid and April 2021 for the Prime. (Was there a production change or a change of parts on those dates?)
