Anyone thinking about adding Qi charging to their RAV4? I got my 2024 RAV4 XLE Hybrid in August and discovered that it didn't have the Qi charging like my Prius did. I wondered if anyone took the leap and replaced the cell phone tray with a Qi charging tray. I found one on Amazon that looks great, but I am not a mechanic and not sure I want to be doing that to my car. The videos make it look very easy, but the point of the videos - make you overconfident. Before I get in over my head, I thought I'd see if anyone else has done this.

Here is the one I found on Amazon if anyone is interested.

I put that very one in my RAV4. It is fairly easy to install, but then I'm used to doing things like that. For someone that has little experience, it might be intimidating. Perhaps you have a friend that can help you.

I really got it for the voltmeter which is great to keep track of the charging system. I never use the wireless phone charger so can't comment on how well it works; my tray is full of stuff, mainly my wired to wireless CarPlay adapter.

What is sad, is the super duper one that is in the top of the line model is crap... it's motorized and supposed to align itself with the phone, does a terrible job.. I have a Z fold 6, and it starts to charge and then stops and then starts again...

I might rip mine out and try that one instead... but I have a cigar lighter plugin with type Cb that has very high power, and will charge way faster, like 3 amps... much better in a car, less convenient to plug in, but actually gives me a lot of charge in very little time... I think in a car, a wireless charger is just too slow. You cannot charge at near the same rate.

I have a Qi charger in my 2019 RAV4 XSE. from the factory as part of their Tech Package. It is crap. Doesn't charge worth a damn. I am better off using the USB port in the console between the seats it is faster. I keep a USB cable attached to the center armrests USB in the compartment that is long enough to run to the dash center compartment to connect the iPhone as needed.

To provide another data point - I have had no issues at all with the Toyota factory wireless charger on a couple of different Android phones. Once or twice I've had to move the phone around, but that's it. I use it every time I'm in the car without issue.

I'll bet you don't have a case, or an extremely thin one... I have a thin case on my Z fold 6, still starts and stops charging, no matter what "technique" I use for starting/resetting/rebooting the charger... on/off/3 press/5 press...

It seems to be worse on phones that can use the high charging rate... because it starts and then after a short while resets... just junk especially in light of the costly motor assist for the charging coil.

I had a rethink, and thought maybe there is a location that would work... my phone is sitnificantly smaller than the phone "depression"... so for the first time, I shoved the phone as far forwards and to the left as it would go... it, for the first time, stayed charging at about 550 ma... 1/6 of what I can get with a hardwire, but at least not a total loss.... tried the fast charge setting... would not hold... but progress at least, useable, not stellar, finicky where to position the phone, but working
