It almost seems like Toyota waited this out some
Absolutely OBSCENE that Toyota waited SIX YEARS to issue a new valve. If they knew Aisin had f**ked up the old valve (and how could they not know it) then why keep using it. Also, as the CSP shows, it should take 1.4 hours max labor to install the valve---why did Toyota allow dealers to charge $1000 for that.

Toyota is screwing ALL owners right up to the 2024 model year with the FEB 2021 vehicle manufacture cut off date in the CSP
Maybe the CSP covers what is currently known to be years that have shown up as having a failed valve. As the newer years fail then maybe they issue another CSP that extends into more years.

I can see them not worrying about a faulty valve if it didn't fail yet. That's dumb thinking for sure, but perhaps that's how they see it currently? Certainly makes no sense to me if they know all the models pre-F0300 and pre-F0310 have a valve part number that is known to be faulty. Slow walking it I guess.

I mentioned it a few times, Toyota has become very hands-off on dealers, and I think it hurts the brand dramatically.

So we will all have to wait another 6 or more years for Toyota to issue a follow-up CSP. I doubt they will. By that future date Toyota will hope the 5th gen RAVs are destroyed in accidents or floods, or in wrecking yards with blown engines or trans, or are over 100K miles so an extended warranty in a CSP would not apply.

Fail rate is fail rate. 2019-2021's, 3yrs worth, and most of them have valve fail somewhere near 60kmi, but it must be related to heating-cooling conditions. Maybe for those who always use heat the valve won't fail, so the northern half of US get's less fails, bottom half more fails. Toyota knows this data.

2022-2024's, 3yrs worth, they get a CSP around 2027, 2-3yrs from now, but 5-6yrs from the release of 2022 models.

Again, makes no sense to me how Toyota is handling this, just pay the 1.4hrs to swap the valves out when a vehicle comes in to the service center. That's still a slow process because many Ravs don't go to dealer service centers. Keep the customer happy, do the right thing.

...would Honda have handled such issue the same way?
In the 21st century? Sure!! Airbags tried to kill me, and the replacement bags were also killers. Meanwhile SOMEthing went blooie in the ECU giving a rap rap rap idle that could be dangerous slowing to a stop.

The best days of Japanse autos are in the past. There's some inertia keeping them not-bad, even good, but we won't again have the Datsuns and Civics and Miatas of yesteryear.

From a different angle, would Honda have handled such issue the same way?
Honda sucks big time in a different way. Google Honda radar thefts. This is a huge issue. Thieves just pop off the front emblem with a screw driver and the radar sensor behind it just unplugs! No bolts. Takes 30 seconds.Cost to replace $500 to $2k.

This afternoon I spent a couple of tedious hours on the NHTSA.gov site looking for RAV4 coolant bypass valve complaints. I went through all the owners "complaints" filed for the model year 2019 through 2024 Rav 4 gas models. I used the site's subject buttons to focus on both "engine" and "engine and cooling" though I also checked out "electrical" and "unknown". There were several coolant bypass valve complaints for both the 2019 and 2020 model year cars. There WERE a couple of complaints for the 2021 model year. There was no way to determine if the '21s were manufactured before FEB of 2021. There were NO coolant bypass valve complaints for the 2022 through 2024 model year cars. Toyota WOULD know exactly how many valves failed for each model year car, and at what mileage, because they would get that information from the dealers' warranty claims records (for cars with valves failing within the Basic Warranty period). Did Toyota find that the valves quit failing after FEB 2021 production? Who knows. Toyota ain't saying.
I own a 2022 hybrid Limited.

No complaints here

I say look for a deal on 2022 and up

How many miles have you put on that '22? The valves on the 2019-2021s were failing at a random variety of miles--some at as little as 20K some at 35-45K and some at 60K or even 9OK miles. On your 2022 you won't ever know if the F0010 valve is TRULY alright. It might fail next year...or it might never fail. That was its defect--it was UNRELIABLE and UNTRUSTWORTHY.

It’s great that you’re getting the bypass valve replaced under warranty, especially since it was going to be an expensive repair! If you have the Engine Maintenance Required warning, it might be worth checking with your dealer to see if the bypass valve replacement is covered, as it seems Toyota has extended the warranty for this issue. It’s a good idea to ask for clarification, since there doesn’t seem to be much info online yet. Hopefully, other owners will benefit from hearing about this too!

Coolant Bypass Valve - dealer told me warranty extended

Just throwing this out there since I haven’t previously heard about this. I’m at the dealer this morning getting the roof rail leak addressed on my 2019 RAV4 XLE with 50k miles. Out of warranty obviously.

The service rep came and told me that I needed the bypass valve replaced too which I already knew. I was planning on getting this done at an independent mechanic that quoted me $600 for the job after a different Toyota dealership previously quoted $1100. I told him this and he said “well they just extended the warranty on the bypass valve too, so we can go ahead and take care of it if you want” - so I’m getting it replaced no charge by Toyota.

Might be worth looking into if you have this Engine Maintenance Required warning on your MID. Maybe it’s a mistake on the dealers part since I can’t find anymore info about this online and i haven’t heard anything since there was talk of a class action, but just spreading the word.

Finally someone with failed coolant bypass valve for ATF at 360 000 miles. His video is 3 months old and he mentioned updated OEM valve
He is right. If the coolant bypass valve for ATF failed, then "check engine" light or MIL comes on. So, the "Engine Maintenance Required..." message is reserved for coolant bypass valve for Heater only.
Here is some info:
