all 4 of my toyotas
every 10,000, change oil with mobil 1 of correct viscosity and toyota oil filter
oldest one 1999 4runner limited, burns almost zero oil (in 10,000 miles dipstick
moves from full mark to 2/3rd mark just darker)....makes more
power than it did when new rolling off the lot, over 280,000 miles...
so like 27 oil changes in 25 years
tacoma, yaris, and this rav4, same. every 10,000 miles with mobil 1
I don't overthink it or worry about it...my only stress is if I go over 10,000
miles I really start thinking about changing it and get it done asap.
no oil related, piston related, or lubrication issues, absolutely none**
**wait there is one oil related issue, the 4runner MAF sensor does need to be cleaned
from PVC vapor deposits every 50,000 miles or so, otherwise I may get rough idle on
humid cold days. the 4runner PVC route to the intake allows oily crankcase gasses to
settle on the MAF wires on engine shutdown and MAF doesn't have a 'bake off cycle' so I manually
need to spray clean it. super minor issue. throttle body also gets a spray when I do MAF
