Hello everyone

I have a problem with the liftgate of my rav4 hybrid 2016.

It closed on a plastic bag which blocked its locking. I was able to remove the bag and close the trunk but since then it's been impossible to open it: there's the beep and banging noises in the cylinders as if the tailgate was blocked.

What I don't understand is that even when I put the PBD in manual mode and disconnected the battery, the tailgate still forces open and is impossible to open manually. However, if there's no power, it should work.

Any idea as I'm lost ;((

Thanks

it's been impossible to open it
There is an access port on the inside of the tailgate to get to the mechanism to open it. Once you have the gate open, then you will need to dismantle the latch mechanism to see what is wrong with it.

Thank you for your reply

Yes I have already opened and found the small latch, once activated I can push the trunk of 1 or 2 centimeters but not more after it forces and even with the battery disconnected which is incomprehensible since the cylinders are no longer powered ...

Hello everyone

I've tried again all the manipulations read on the forum without success :(((

What I do not understand is how it is possible that battery (negative) disconnected, manually opening the latch from the inside it is impossible to open the tailgate manually as if something forced ...

The liftgate was never forced, it just got caught in a plastic bag when closing and I removed it.

I finally managed to open the tailgate in manual mode using the latch on the inside and deactivating the pbd.
It was the actuator that was sticking a bit.
I lubricated everything: hinge and actuator, performed the reset procedure by manually opening and closing the tailgate with the 4 beeps.

Unfortunately, every time I try to open and close it, it moves a few centimetres and stops, so I press again and the same thing happens

Unplugging the battery does nothing

An idea, thank you all!
