Here is the complete description of the "Micro Dust and Pollen Filter Control" system from the 2007 RAV4 New Car Features guide.

The micro dust and pollen filter control quickly removes pollen from the front seat occupant area with the pressing of the micro dust and pollen filter control switch on the heater control panel, without requiring any complex air conditioning operation.

When the user pushes the micro dust and pollen filter control switch, the air conditioning operates in the recirculation mode. The clean air that has passed through the clean air filter blows out from the face outlet to the occupant area. The filtered clean air quickly removes pollen from the occupant area. After that, the air in the cabin recirculates and continues to remove pollen in the air by allowing the clean air filter to capture the pollen. When the amount of pollen in the cabin as a whole diminishes to a certain level, the air conditioning automatically resumes operating in the auto mode.

It senses the pollen in the air? That's a neat trick. I wonder if it just sets a timer.

I think that "complex" A/C operation consists of turning on the "recirculate" control for about 3 minutes.

Is the micro dust filter control switch somethng new for the 07? I have the filter but no switch. In fact, after inspecting my filter, I change my filter every 2 years.

etop: I have it on my '06. I have the Limited so I can only speak to it. It is on the passanger side of the dual temp control about 7 o'clock.

So if I were driving down a long, very dusty dirt road with the system on Recirc, will the filter automatically be operating all the time?

It seems screwy to me - why not just have a filter at the air inlet to the cabin, like on my Audi A4? That stops everything from entering the fan housing and ductwork, regardless of the Recirc setting. It sounds as if the Toyota system tries to clean up the mess after the dirt has already entered the system. If that is the case, the engineer who designed it needs to be sacked!

If I'm reading this wrong, please correct me.

I agree. It still would be more effective on recirculate as it would have multiple passes.

the filters work all the time but if you hit the pollon button recirc comes
That makes sense. So the button just saves you the trouble of turning recirculate off after a few minutes of operation.

correct!
