I know this might be a dumb question, but after searching my manual and the forum, couldn't find anything, except for one thread about replacing the arm, but i want to replace the blade :wall . For a moment i thought it was gonna be easy, but i don't want to brake anything. I hate asking this question cuz maybe it's so easy to do, but i really have no clue  :? Help me! Rain is upon me on Monday :(

Ggirl

Hmmmmm, about the question being dumb… I looked dumber holding a flashlight on the car at 2:30 in the morning just to remember how it went on. :?
Don’t worry, no one called the cops.

Ok from what I remember.

Pop Up the Wiper Arm.

Here on all parts will be referred to as top and bottom. Bottom end will be the hinged end.

To understand the system, Pull on the middle of the Rubber Blade and see how it interacts with the 4 flanged arms of the Steel Wiper Arm. The Blade freely slides on the top 3 Flanges and the bottom Flange locks into place on the notched (or embossed) section of the Blade.

Removal:

Tilt the Whole Wiper Arm slightly on an angle for you need to slide the Rubber blade Downwards and out..
First you need to depress the 2 protruding stop Dimples or Bosses locked in that Notched section, and pull the Rubber Blade downwards, sliding out of the 3 guide flanges of the Wiper Arm.
You can use a screw driver and push one side at a time.

Then remove the 2 flexible pieces of steel support strips imbeded in the Rubber Blade, one on each side should easily be removed.
Cut the Top side of the new Rubber Blade to match the length of the old one. Cutting the top and not the Notched bottom side.
Re-insert the 2 steel support strips. I can’t remember if they are notched and have a receiving member in the Rubber, so please check.
You may want to temporarly place some tape on the bottom end because the steel may pop out easily.
Then reverse the whole process buy inserting the top of the Blade into the receiveing bottom end of the Wiper Flange and push up, Remove that tape, continue until the bottom flange locks and is accepted by the Bottom Rubber

And Voula !!! Your done… :)

Oh, how much did ya pay for the Blades, and where did you get them Ggril? You also reminded me to get ready a spray bottle with windshield washer fluid in it for this winter and also to start putting my blades up over night in the next few weeks or the Rubber will stick and rip.

Cheers, Walt

  I meant to say the wiper blade, not just the rubber  . I couldn't think of another word besides wiper arm or rubber. I bought them for $9.99 plus 10% discount on bransport.com, and i had to buy the wiper blade cuz they don't sell just the refill for my model, only for the 4.1. Today, a friend helped me to remove the rubber and replaced it with the new one, after removing it from the blade of course, but he damaged the blade with his knife  so now i need to replace the blade and put the rubber back to the original brand new blade. Anyone? Walt?

P.S. Walt, please don't go out at 2:30am in the cold. Thank you :p

Forgot to add the link. Here it is http://www.brandsport.com/toy-85242-42020.html

Miriam did you get new rims? Did you digitally produce that pic? Your Pic shows some 5 spoke, something like the Mazda ones.

As for the Blade.

Correct me if I am wrong but from what I understand now you are doing only the Rear Wiper Blade?

Also, are you saying that your friend tried to remove the Rubber from the After market one and put it into the Original one. That may not work because the OEM Rubber could very well be different from the After market one.

So he should be able to put the Rubber back After market Rubber into the Blade if he was able to take it out. The next step, and proper step in this case, would be to replace the Wiper Blade on the car.

If you do a search on Google you will find some good Instructions.

Here is what I found.
(Read the warnings at the bottom of the link page)

Sorry if I got your message abit late.

Walt :)

You caught me :p. The rims are digitally produced  I just wanted to see what they look like on my car, and sure they look great :), but i'm broke :(.

And yes, i was trying to replace the rear wiper blade. I bought an OEM rear wiper blade from brandsport. Cuz the blade was hard to remove. my friend decided to remove the rubber out of the brand new blade, and put it in the old blade that's attached to the whole arm. I searched on how to remove the blade from the arm but couldn't find anything, not even in the manual :?, and the package that the blade came with didn't have any instructions at all :? I guess removing and replacing the wiper blade is a task so dumb that instructions are not needed

So now thanks to my friend, my blade is scratched to the point where you can see a little bit of the plastic coming out and i want to trash that and put my new blade in instead.

I did a search too on how to remove wiper blade but all i found was how to remove the front ones, not the rear. Is it the same? They look very different though

Ggirl,

First I’d like to say that I have been eyeing the Mazda Rims this summer for the winter time for my Baby (used rims). Their OEM’s on the 3 sport series looks similar except I like the hard line embosses near the end of the spokes. It makes them a bit more aggressive, which looks good on our RAV’s. I could not get 3 browsers to show that type of Rim, using a custom jpg. But thanks to you I don’t have to. I guy near my place has an even nicer set on a RX-8 WoaaaaaW !! The car has a full wide body kit and it’s sweet, definitely not cheesy. As for being broke, well when I was your age I too didn’t have the money to spend on those things.

As for the Wiper Blade, you live in California, Correct? So sue your friend   :p
Seriously, I will make some tea when I go outside to say hi to Happy then I will check for you. And don’t worry the other night I checked it was much warmer out. I was just a bit concerned because I had my hooded sweatshirt on and a flashlight in my hand. We have some really old, nice neighbors with bad eyesight.

Cheers, Walt :D

Miriam if this is what you wanted, then Marry X-mas :D

Just rotate the blade back past its maximum point and it will dislocate. (pop out of hinge). Then pull back.

To install the new one just do it in reverse. Put the blade perpendicular sliding it into the hinge. Skinny side blade (my hand) to your left and thick side protruding to your right. Pop it in and twist to your left so it closes parallel as if it where sitting on your window.

If you still have problems I will check back again in about 4 hours.
Good luck. Walt

You guys have rear wipers that look like that? With replaceable blade inserts?!?

How come my RAV has a one-piece plastic wiper that you have to replace as a unit, not with replacement strips? :? And it's not over 12", so I haven't found any aftermarket replacements for the rear wiper assembly. :(

You know what? Now that you mentioned it Liz, i need to ask Walt: is that a picture of the front or the rear wiper? I think i can see the front windshield in the picture, not sure though . I was reading your reply at work, and was such in a hurry that i didn't see the pic really well yesterday. Please correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't that the front wiper? :?

Liz, i didn't get just the rubber, but the whole blade. It's just that my friend couldn't figure out how to take the whole plastic out of the arm that's attached to the car, so he just slipped the rubber insert out, removed the old one from the attached arm and then replaced it with the new one. I wish there was more light out so i can show you what i bought. My camera phone is really suckie :p

Liz / Ggirl it was night time, cold, I had to juggle through 3 batteries for my camera because I lent my charger out, and all the time I had a large flashlight under my arm. So it still was pretty dark out.

Ggirl the silver object in the background is my Spare Tire cover.
And don’t ask me if it mounted to my hood. :p

The Rear Wiper looks skinny on that angle, and long because of the angle and close up. Or maybe my fingers are Fat !! :egad:

I am pretty sure that I replaced all 3 Rubber Blades a year or two ago. As long as the OEM Steel Wipers are in good shape then it makes sense and is better for the environment.

Cheers, Walt :D

Sorry my Typing can’t keep up with my thought process…

1010tires.com had a similar Rim that you overlapped on the pic. I uploaded a pic of the RAV but it didn’t work. Tirerack of course does because they already had a pic of the RAV but I did not see the rim that I liked. So you did all the work for me…

Thanks, Walt

Done! It was sooooo easy! Thanks Walt! I just didn't think i could tilt back the arm like that. I thought i was going to break it if i tried that  . Yay! It might be something so simple, but i did it myself (with some help from you of course) and that makes me feel great . Two   for Walt!
