Would be better if there is an auto option like in BMW cars. When the auto-recirculate is on, the computer will automatically switch to recirculate if it senses enough pollutants coming in.

I definitely need to read our new RAV4's manual. I didn't even know there's a "Micro Filter Switch" in the car. I was relying on my wife to read it for both of us. :)

It seems screwy to me - why not just have a filter at the air inlet to the cabin
I agree. It still would be more effective on recirculate as it would have multiple passes.
I do HVAC engineering. Yes, multiple passes will get you less particulates, as all filters are rated at a certain percentage efficiency per pass. Stands to reason that more passes will filter more out than a single pass. Ex: For a "50% filter", a single pass will yield 50% unfiltered contaminants, but another pass will filter 50% of 50% (leave 25% remaining), then 12.5% remaining on the next pass, then 6.75% and so on. There is definitely enough infiltration in a vehicle cabin to ensure adequate fresh air when in re-circ mode.

Also, I've seen the replacement filter media part number between all trim levels of the '07 Rav, and they are the same, so I'm not sure why the Limited advertises pollen removal while the other trim levels do not.

At least replacement is a simple DIY procedure thru behind your bottom glove box, so you don't have to pay your local stealership $100 an hour for such work. I think the filter was about $35.

The limited has a one button feature to raise the fan speed to high, set dampers to recirc to do the multiple pass filtration. Thats what this pollon removal button is.. nutten too fancy its just a one button setting to instanty do it..

the filters work all the time but if you hit the pollon button recirc comes
That makes sense. So the button just saves you the trouble of turning recirculate off after a few minutes of operation.
drat - i knew i shoulda got a limited :(

(some may have noticed i'm feeling sarcastic tonight. no harm no foul :p )

(my turn to be sarcastic)

but then would have to forgo those fly black mirrors and door handles..:):)
