My first post here and thought id ask something ive wanted to know for a while for I get into the swing of things on this forum.

I was just wondering why toyota went BIG with the new generations (06-07) of RAV4s and will they bring out a new small version again?

Its because of its small size that attracted alot of people (including me). Thats why I kept my eye out only for a 2004-2005 rav4.

And i did buy one a couple of days ago.

size was one of the major factors when i bought my Rav. i have a shared driveway with my neighbor, which is only so wide. plus there's not a whole lot of room to maneuver from the driveway to the garage, so i had strict limits on how large a vehicle i could buy. as such a 2006 Rav would never fit in the garage.

this size limit was probably also a good thing, as the salesman kept trying to push me towards the 06 Rav.

Not only the size but appearance as well...

I was parked next to a 2007 the other day, and I have a 96 2dr, and my RAV looked like a compact vehicle next to it, as well as completely different looking...

I always liked the look of the 4.1 2dr models... even the the 4.2 2dr model was nice, but unfortunately the 2dr wasn't available in the US

Slinky welcome to RAV4W :D

Many of the 4.2ers where talking about this among other issues when the 4.3 was coming out.

For me I could go possibly a bit smaller than even my present 4.2. But with a bigger engine more environmentally friendly engine.

If they do put out a AWD vehicle smaller than the 4.3,
I think it would be even smaller than the 4.2.
After living in Italy for over 4 years, I see the 4.2 as a MAX practical size. Even big in some places for the small roads and crowded cities.

But I don’t have to worry for at least 10 years of hopefully low cost maintenance to my 4.2.

Like em both

I bought a 2006 because our family needed the size. I was really happy to find out about a lot of other cool features like the 269 horse power engine. We'd loved RAVs for a long time, but they were just too small. Now that I have this one I find myself wishing I had a 4.2 as my commuter car.

I cant see them (Toyota) producing a smaller version of the RAV4 again..

All cars come in ever increasing sizes.. Look at the Holden Commodore or Ford Falcon here in Australia or any other model you can think of.. They all start a certain size and grow as the model get revised again and again...

If Toyota do bring out a smaller AWD vehicle I doubt it would be called a RAV4.... The RAV will progressively move in the direction of the Kluger (Highlander) and the Kluger will disappear (Toyota already have the Prado and LandCruiser as the BIG GUNS..)

Yeah I miss the option of the smaller Rav, the new 4.3's are tending to merge in with other models/makes now. Thats why I like the cheeky look of the 2dr old skool 4.1's and 4.2's. Great for when you like the height and 4WD aspect of having a jeep, but not encumbered with the size of a tank!

Yesterday notice my dentist and I both had a 4.2 RAV4. He said that he likes his BUT won't buy another, since Toyota increased the size of the 4.3. He feels Toyota going in wrong direction with size of this vehicle. I concurr , like the size of 4.1 and 4.2, easy of parking and tight turning circle is great for a city enviroment. A few weeks ago gentlemen pulled along side me in parking lot, greeted me as a fellow RAV4 owner and told me he bought a used 98 RAV4 with 98,000 miles from a relative and it run great . He wants to get another for his wife.

Since my depth perception is horrible and got used to driving my small 4.2, i could never see myself driving a car bigger than mine. I would probably hit the wall backing it up since i'm used to one without a trunk :p  :p

they do this to bring out new cars. mak old cars bigger.. and then come out with new small cars... why do you think i got a scion xB. its the same exterior size of the rav4.1 BUT the interior is much larger! way roomier... I LUV MY SCION for that. but my tiny rav is SPUNKIER! a dn i loved the 4.2 ! but i never got one. and the 4.3 is too big.. but the speed i heard is nice!

notice the TUNDRA GOT FRICKING HUGE. and the tacoma is the sixe of a 2 year old Tundra... so maybe they will come out with a new small truck...maybe

but those who love the small ravs should look into the Scion xB... those who love the smaller high landers shoudl look into the new ravs.... those that liked the smaller 4 runners should look into the new highlanders etc. etc.

I believe that's why alot of the newer vehicles are coming standard with the backup sensors, even front sensors I believe on some... the bigger the vehicle, the harder to see the front and back, and there are many more blindspots...

Never heard of the RUSH... but we get the Daihatsu TERIOS here in Australia... Toyota and Daihatsu have entered an agreement where the car is made by Daihatsu and sold under both brands... Toyota, even though more expensive is looking to sell 3 times as many of these rebadged cars as the maker....

It looks like a mini RAV from behind - quite cute..
