Getting ready to buy my first Toyota.

I've taken the 2008 out for a few test drives and really like it.

I came across a few great deals on a 2007 but have yet to test drive any.

Is there any significant differences between the 2007 and 2008 models?

For example, in the 2008 the back seats tilt and slid. Is that a feature in the 2007s?

The biggest difference is the small midget that comes with the 08's. He hides in the trunk compartment until you pull off the lot, then jumps out to reduce the overall weight and improve MPGs.

What.......didn't anyone else's come with him?

Other than that, the only difference are the TSBs that have already been applied to the 08's.

I'm assuming the 07 was used right? Might want to check build date because early 07's didn't get all the fixes the later 07 models got which carried into the 08's.... like the exhaust canister shield. 08 sports also had different rims. All others were pretty unimportant changes (ignition pre-wire or something like that). I had a post a while back which detailed out the differences for the 08. Look for one of my posts.

I would agree to look at the 09 if you can deal with the front end.

I had an '07 sport with 35k miles and traded it in on an '08 sport. My wife and I both agreed that the '08 seem to ride smoother, quieter, and not so jumpy with the acceleration. Just the way it felt.

The electronic engine immobilizer (electronic key) was put into most models on the 08, as opposed to the 07 where it was only available on the limited. That was the only difference that I was somewhat interested in, but didn't want to pay a ton extra for it (07 at $1000 below invoice vs an 08 nowhere close to that)

When did Toyota install that evap canister shield thingy? I thought it was in 08? I think Toyota also fixed the all too common defective glitch in the radio panel (that afflicted 06 and 07s) in 08.

No. It was 07 for sure. I think we did a roll call and it was on Rav4's coming from the plant with build dates of May 07? Now if only I could find that darn post.

If your going to buy new you might want to look at the 09's as they have a new look and some new features.
The 09 are being built in Canada (Ontario) while the 08's are from Japan. Ontario builds good cars, but I'd be leery about the first year production on a new line.

I'm picking up a new 2008 Sport tonight. Is this change in rim cosmetic, or can I rely upon the discussions about the 16" rims that I need to buy for my winter tires?

Yeah it's cosmetic. I can't imagine any significant structural difference.

You should probably get smaller rims to be able to buy winter tires cheaper. Also the more sidewall, the better the performance is in the snow.
