Funny, I had this TSB performed on mine the first week of Oct '09, within a week of when RAVMAN posted this thread.

The 2-second clicking noise while cranking started in '08 & only occurred in temps under ~ 55 degrees, so it normally did it in the morning & not during the warm months, but it only did it after sitting for 1-2 hours after the initial morning start. Weird, I know. As you can imagine, it was next to impossible for the service techs to duplicate it as I brought it in twice, to no duplication.

I had a week-long vacation scheduled for early Oct '09, so I left it there all week. They finally duplicated it.

I figured the problem was so odd & rare, that likely no one else on this forum ever encountered it. I just happened to pull that invoice out today just to see again what fixed it & how much it cost. I then noticed it had a TSB# on the invoice. Bingo...it was put on this forum just a few days before my RAV went into the shop for it...how weird is that?

The fix per the invoice:

"Found B1 Intake Cam Actuator not locking when engine not running and oil pressure not present. Replacing Exhaust Cams and Head Cover Sub Assemblies, All 4 Actuators and Chains if needed. Chain in good shape at this time."

Total cost: $4470.03

Thank God for that 100K extended warranty I bought. The extended warranty company did not want to pay. The dealership owner (Zach Penney) had to get involved and forced them to pay...and I never even met the guy. Kudos to him for standing up for his customers.
