where does the VIN 2T... vehicles come from ? I thought the ones starting with J come manufactured & assembled from Japan. How about the ones starting with 2T ...

Reason why am asking : The SUVs with 2T are being quoted lower than the ones with J.

Could that be a price driver? How is the manufacturing quality of this factory compared to Japan.

Reason why i ask - My lemon'ed Subaru was manufactured in US and the shake issue is persistent only for US manufactured models. The European & Japan manufactured models have no issues. However, Subaru was not importing any Japan manufactured models into US or Canada.

My 06 RAV was made in Japan. My 10 RAV was made in Canada. The quality of the 10 is just as good as the 06. I had an 04 Matrix which was made in Canada. There were no problems with it either.

Canada. Woodstock factory.

Enters the U.S. through the port of Detroit/Windsor.
The Canadian RAV4s I think have a better paint job, and the fit and finish is comparable to the Japanese ones. Canadian ones are probably cheaper due to the cheaper costs of importing them (you aren't ferrying them across the ocean then moved onto a train the rest of the way).

Correct! That's the whole reason they put a manufacturing plant in Canada, to keep costs down for North/Central/South American buyers. Whether folks think the ones made in Japan are better quality than made in Canada is subjective.

Yet Toyota still charges the same cost for Destination regardless of the location of the plant.

For all cars.
Numbers are North America.
1,4,5 USA
2 Canada
3 mexico
Letters for the rest of the world
J Japan
K Korea
W Germany
S England
Z Italy
Those are the ones I know.

Made sure the 2010 had a -J- Vin. The salesman giggled as he saw me looking at Vin #'s in the lot. I said: " What's up"? He stated: "your looking for a vehicle with a J vin number. I have 4 left". Lucky for me they were all Base 4WD I4's. Even had my Dream Base RAV with Side Moldings and Stone Guards as factory installed. : )

I contacted at least 15 dealers and none of them had "J" VINs. There are couple out of state but they want me to pay transportation or charges or someone will be driving the car so i have to take one with 300+ miles.

Having just bought a Rav4 a week ago, I was surprised to see the number of "J" VINs on my dealer's lot. I am in Northern Colorado, not exactly near the port of Long Beach...I had a choice of vehicles, very nice. The J's are buit at Tahara which is Toyota's most automated plant and assembles most Lexuses, especially the high end ones. The plant is considered one of the top assembly plants in the world.

However, Toyota's Canadian plants also get to assemble Lexus RX's, and have won many awards for quality from outside agencies. In all, you can't go wrong with a Canadian RAV4.

Yep, you are absolutely correct and I did not mean to slag my neighbors to the north. My post was merely to express wonder that the J cars were available in my location (along with Canadian ones, about 50/50 split). It didn't matter to me when I purchased and I am aware of the RX assembly in Canada. It's getting to the point where no matter where a car is made, the ASSEMBLY portion is pretty good. The initial ENGINEERING of a product is often another thing altogether....i.e. bits aren't often falling off new cars, but bits breaking or not lasting is usually a design or engineering (or lack thereof) issue.
