Today I checked the clutch pedal freeplay and pedal height on my just purchased 1996, 2wd. I used the specifications in Chilton which is the same in Haynes. Freeplay was fine, but pedal height was way off according to the specs. I am questioning the specs. Pedal height is supposed to be between 6.38 and 6.77 inches. My pedal is at 5.75 inches (and is about the same height as the brake pedal.) When I went to adjust it, it was already as high as it could be adjusted (the rod coming through the firewall would stop the pedal at its present position because of its widened section hitting the outside of the firewall as the pedal came up, when I screwed the adjusting rod back, therefore the stop disk would not reach the adjusting rod.) Does anyone have the shop manual specs? What else might be going on?
