Question regarding a 1994 NZ RAV4 AWD Automatic, probably a Japanese import.
Two switchs on the dash labeled Power and Manual. What are there functions and what positions are considered normal: On or Off?
The Automatic gearshift has the Overdrive button also, is there an indicator for this, ON/OFF?

Cheers

The Power button tells the transmission to shift more aggressively -- hold gears longer for better acceleration instead of shifting up earlier for better economy. I hardly ever use it since you can achieve the same effect by just flooring it if you need to zoom off. If I push this button on my 2000 an "ECT Power" indicator lights up in the dash (right next to the "O/D Off" indicator, as it happens).

The Manual (sometimes labelled ECT-S) button tells the transmission that you want to shift by yourself and my understanding (since North American RAVs never got this button) is that it will let you shift totally manually, up and down. Try it out and let us know if this is true.
