The light bulb on the automatic gearshift in my 1997 Rav4 (with 193,000 miles on it) has burned out...I have to turn the dome light on at night to see if I have the car in drive or not. Does anyone know how to change the bulb, and whether or not doing so would involve a lot of work? Thank you.

Remove the centre console (5 screws hold it down).
There is a bulb holder that plugs in below the shifter...take it out and replace the bulb.
Put everything back in place in reverse order.
Easy peesy.

Moza, do you have to remove the shifter itself to get underneath the base of the shifter? Just curious, because I have had the shifter and console removed many times; but did not notice any light bulbs down there.

Now that I think of it, how do you remove the base of the shifter anyways? :?:
