Hi folks, my 1998 5 speed standard is slipping in 3rd,4th and 5th when i excellerate. It has 140,000 miles, 238,000 kms.
Is it just the clutch. I am guessing it is original as I just bought it today.

Yep, it needs a clutch. It'll slip the most in the highest gears.

Here's another quick test: put the hand brake on (while stopped, obviously) and put it in 5th gear. Slowly let the clutch out. If it doesn't stall, it's the clutch. In older cars, the advice was to put the front bumper up against a tree....... that was when bumpers could be bumped into things....

My clutch test is to drive at 60-70 mph in high gear and floor the accelerator. Then tap the clutch enough to purposely make it slip making the engine rev up some. If the engine rpm doesn't drop back down immediately when the clutch is released it's getting weak and either needs adjustment or replacement.

Obviously the OP's clutch is way beyond any chance of passing my "early warning" test.

I am changing the clutch myself:crying
All the transmission shops quote 13 hours and $2000 bucks.
Anyone know of a video out there or should I get a Haynes.
