Hi All,

I thought I would post something I found out recently.

Other people we know have been complaining that they cannot hear my wife or myself well when we use our 2014 RAV4 XLE's bluetooth microphone. They say we either break up, or that we sound like robots.

We both have HTC One M8 from Verizon.

When I took our car in for the 15k service I had the dealer look into it. They tested the car while driving and while still using my phone and the tech's phone.

The findings were that when the tech paired his iPhone (not sure which type), the other tech on the other side could hear clearly. When they used my phone, there were problems with the call quality for the tech on the listening end (not using the car's Bluetooth).

They blamed it on the phone, and I was a little shocked, because the HTC M8 is a flagship phone that uses the Bluetooth 4.0 specification, and from what I read iPhone 6 also uses the Bluetooth 4.0 specification.

So I tested it myself with my brother's iPhone 6 Plus against my HTC M8. True enough, when my brother's phone was paired to the car the quality was clear. When my phone was paired, I was Mr. Roboto.

I am not sure what is different about HTC M8 vs iPhone's Bluetooth, but I wanted to see if others had similar problems.

In the future I will test other Android models (from family members) to see if I can narrow the problem down to the HTC M8.

Best,
-Griesimatt

I have an HTC One M8 on Verizon and have not had any complaints about my call quality from anybody while using the Bluetooth microphone in my 2013 XLE. I have a friend that has an M8 as well and he has connected to my Bluetooth and used it for work calls, no complaints. It may be something odd on your phone, like a 3rd party app, that is the root cause of the issue or I could see it being something wrong with the hardware in your phone. I would try to disable apps one by one, ugh, just to eliminate one of them causing an issue. I assume you have tried to delete the pairing and readd it to see if the problem is still there also.

Had problems with my Verizon M8 with an aftermarket headunit in previous car. Volume was fine, but there was occasional static (which absolutely shouldn't be possible).

The next time I factory reset my phone I will make a call before installing other apps.

The problem is happening on my wife's phone too (I have red Verizon m8, she has gray).

Yea, we tried renaming our phones, re-adding them, etc.

We have found people seem to hear us more when we disable the Wifi on the phone (even if it is not connected to anything).

I have yet to try other Android phones. But thank you for your feedback.

My wife and I have a m8 and both are paired to our 15 xle and haven't any problems.. Our mic volume is in the middle on the Entune radio. I heard of it's too high it causes some static cutting in and out sounds on the receiver end.
