Hello everyone.
I've changed brakes before, on every vehicle I've ever owned. So I thought this would be easy - and honestly, the front was super easy. The rear, however....
So I have that electronic parking brake. I guess it engages automatically. I have no complaints about its function, but today I needed to get it to disengage to access the rear brake pads.
Well, I got it off. And then, I needed the car to retract the piston a little bit, so I could put it back on. So after looking at some instructions, I attempted to put the brake in maintenance mode. There was a youtube that demonstrated how, saying that the other ways, using a battery, etc. would potentially damage the system.
Well, I did the steps. Maybe I didn't do it right. The piston is completely extended, leaking, and will not go back in. I can't push it, because it has a motor. The car just says parking brake unavailable and says take it to the dealer. So I didn't touch the other side, and used a bungee to support the disconnected caliper, enough to put the car back together and gently move it. (my other car was in the garage, and I needed to get it out.)
Anyone have any advice on how to get that rotor to retract? I already tried taking it off. I have a wrench that can turn it, but it doesn't do any good.
Thanks in advance for your time.
