Hello - There are a lot of recurring "hitch" questions and debates about OEM vs non-OEM and costs etc...
I will share my experience here. Hopefully this will clarify any lingering concerns anyone may have.
My vehicle is a 2022 Rav4Prime SE, no under bumper foot activator for the rear hatch. Today, I had the OEM hitch (PK960-42K10) installed at the dealership. The MSRP was $295. I have seen it cheaper online, and also there have been some 10% off accessories coupons floating around.
I was quoted labor of $315 - so $610 installed. This happens to be an old quote from July 2022 that this particular dealership still honored - I have been coming to this dealership for several years for service matters. FWIW, the "new" labor quote was $550 -- they said the labor rates had gone up twice since July.
The overall installation took about 2.5 hours. There was one guy who disassembled the bumper and got the car ready, but there were two guys who installed it (probably due to weight, lifting overhead), cut the bumper cover, and then reassembled the bumper assembly.
Under the rear bumper cover is the aluminum bumper that was removed (Bumper, Rear Impact - p/n 521710R060). This piece weighs about 7 pounds, and I think has an MSRP of about $300. (PM me if interested in buying it)
Overall, the work was done neatly. Since I was not adding the trailering wiring harness, I was not expecting the bumper to be cut as large as it was, but the harness mounting point is attached to the hitch receiver and so it "had" to be done.
After installation, the middle bottom edge of the bumper cover under the hitch <seemed> a bit loose and floppy, which concerned me; but then I checked a couple other Rav4s on the lot (without cut bumpers), and they felt the same.
Overall, I am pleased with the work and the cost. The selling dealership where I bought the car quoted me $1150 for the same hitch installation job in February and again in November 2022, despite having purchased 2 R4Ps from them on those dates -- paying their pandemic "market adjustment" prices ...so DEFINITELY check around and get multiple quotes if you do not want to DIY it.
Thank You, Good Luck!
