Hey everyone!

calling out 2023 Rav 4 buyers experiencing carplay GPS issues connecting to wireless/wired carplay.
GPS location is way off. Looks like integration/projection issue from phone to infotainment

is it Apple issue or toyota’s ? Android auto wired and wireless works perfect so dies inbuilt navigation.

apple compatibility list does not include 2023 rav 4 in it?

What iPhone and iOS version are you using?

What Apple app are you using for GPS? Because I don't have a data plan for my iPhone, I use Here We Go app that supports offline maps. Using this app, GPS location is correct on my 2023 Rav4 XLE Hybrid.

Because I don't have data, I cannot test with the Apple Maps app.

Thank you for responding. I have 2023 rav 4 hybrid limited. I use ios 16.3.1. Iphone 13 pro max. 5G data on while using maps

i used all 3 (google map, apple maps, waze)

having issues. Reddit forum had numerous people facing this same issue.

I just saw your post on Apple’s forum. I hope there is a response there soon. My RAV4 isn’t in yet but this will be my first car with CarPlay so knowing there are some issues going is helpful so I don’t bang my head against the dash trying to make it work.

Are you using wired connection from your phone? The new head supports wireless CarPlay. No need for any cable package.

Also, when setting up CarPlay for the car, did you allow absolutely everything that iOS wanted you to allow?
Carplay is a projection of your phone. Is the GPS on your phone accurate when it's not hooked up to the car?
Thank you for responding. problem is with projection and/or integration. Gps works fine on my phone when its not connected with the car. This problem persists on multiple iphones

i dont think multiple iphones would have flawed gps, I made sure its not the case as my car is tinted and sometimes tints do mess up with gps, so I did verify this initially. But its not the case here

Maybe try turning off wifi on the iphone and just use your cell providers service. Isn't wireless via bluetooth, not wifi?
Please refer image attached. It uses BT only to connect. For functionality its Wifi. Disconnecting wifi will disable wireless carplay. The data the navigation app (Google map, apple map etc) uses is through the cellphone data.

Disable wifi, use the wired connection, see if that corrects the GPS issue in Carplay.

If your phone is connected to the car via wifi, how do you know it's using cellphone data for gps functions?
I ve disabled wifi, used wired carplay after this fiasco happened with wireless carplay. But its still the same GPS is way off. I m in Toronto and driving on Gardiner gps locates me on lakeshore blvd

also, to your other point. Its the way carplay works. Wifi is only used for integration of phone and car systems wirelessly. Gps accuracy is dependent on GPS phone has (which is tested ok) and wifi (tested ok). Carplay does the projection only. The variable is the car. Is there something thats interfering with the integration or projection? Thats the question

Playing songs on youtube or spotify, maps etc apps use cellphone data.

I thought the connection from iphone to car for apple car play, was via bluetooth, and to the toyota cloud via cellular?
So this is what happens

you get into car with BT turned on. Your car connects to your phone via BT. Now since your phone is connected to car, Then it connects to carplay via Wifi ( if your car has wireless compatibility). Now you open maps to input location you want to go to. Now cellular data is used to provide you with optimized route, traffic update etc. same goes when you play a song on streaming platform it would use cellular data.

here,
since location is compromised the problems might be

either iphone’s latest ios compatibility issue with 2023 models as it has 1st gen of wireless carplay. (But other ios also has issues lol)

toyota infotainment is flawed and is missing the integration/projection piece for wireless carplay (but music works well lol from Apple music)
