Hey guys,
I haven't been on the forum for a while and not sure if someone shares this info yet. I want to share my oil burning experience and experiment on my 2007 RAV with the 2AZ-FE engine. It started burning oil around 65k and then got worse as it aged. Recently, it had about 210k and it burned about a quart every 300-500 miles. I tried different oil grades and recently I did piston soak with MMO and SeaForm twice with no different oil burning. The first try, I soaked for 24 hours with a combination of MMO/Seaform (4 cans - didn't rotate the engine) and drove 30 minutes afterward before changed the oil. The second piston soak, I soaked it for 36 hours with Seaform only (128 oz can - no engine rotation) and it still made no different. Recently, I watched the DIY Dave channel on YT about his Corolla burning oil a quart every 300 miles. He also did varies experiments to unclog piston rings with no success so a viewer suggested him to try B12. He did just that and the result was amazing. He reduced the oil consumption from 300 miles a quart to about 3000 miles a quart.
I did my B12 soaking a bit different from him. He soaked it for 24 hours, rotated every 6 hours, filled in more B 12 on every engine rotation, and drove like 20-30 minutes after 24 hours before did the oil change.
I soaked mine with the B12 for only 12 hours but refilled when I saw it completely drained out from the pistons and rotation like 5-6 times on every refill. I repeated the step until I emptied 4 cans of the B12 in 12 hours. I drained my oil before the B12 soak and left the oil plug opened so it would come straight out of the piston soak. Here is my result - I put in 250 miles so far and it went down about 5%. This is just amazing and I am very happy with the outcome. I saw another guy on YT did the b12 soak on his 2AZ-FE and it caused a knocking but I don't know the detail how he did it. BTW, do the B12 soak outside of a garage because the smell is really strong.
