Hey Guys

I’m planning to head over to Moreton Island with a few mates after all this covid business wraps up. I’m wondering what points on the Rav people use for recovery points. (Not that ravs get bogged😉) or are there after market recovery points available for Ravs.
Looking forward to hearing what everyone has done.
cheers

If you have a hitch on your RAV4, it's a good recovery point. Those in front are made to be used in straight line with the vehicle. When pulling at an angle, they are weak... I destroyed mines this way.

Exact. But use a bungee cord, it puts much less stress on every components.

the ones in the back are pretty weak too. to make it stronger put a towbar with extentions for pulling. You will use four bolts this way not only two like in regular recovery points. for the side "recovery" im making a hitches that are connected under the car :p there are a lot of nice points (front suspension and rear suspension)

Do you have a pic of the rear recovery points you're talking about? I've never seen a RAV4.2 with it... I'm curious! Maybe we did not have them from factory in Canada...

To remedy this situation, I made a steel plate with welded shackle mounts... and bolted it into the factory hitch mount holes. I don't need a hitch, so I did not want to install one and get less departure angle. (I cut a few inches off the exhaust tip for the same reason).

Comando you did it just right. The recovery points ar the back are plates bolted on the place where you suppose to bolt the hitch. That plate has welded a ring, where you can put the recovery rope. Its mentioned in the user manual on page 197

Tom, that hitch will do the job but only if you load it horisontal. On vertical loading it will care max 75kg. (the manifacture data). Check under the car. If the hitch is made for Rav4 there has to be a place where you can put the rope on the hitch body - not on the towing bar. If you did not find a place use the towbar but do not overload it - do not put more than 75 kilos on it. (according to the manifactire data as i mentioned before). On pulling its suppose to take at least 1800kg :)

cheers guys. Didn't even end up needing to use them. Went an entire week on Moreton island without getting bogged once. I guess the Rav is just too much of a weapon
