I'm planning on buying a new condenser for my 03 RAV4 but was wondering if I can pull one off a 2000 to an 2004 would they work?

I have a vague recollection that people have reported a small difference in either height or width that translates to the 2004 and 2005 condensers fitting into 2001 thru 2003 Rav4s. But the reverse is not true? That is, the 2001 through 2003 condensers do not fit into the 2004 and 2005 Rav4s?

I think the best option is to buy a Denso condenser 477-0568 at eBay or Amazon for under $70. It is advertised as fitting 2001 through 2005 Rav4s. Also eBay's ads for the Denso condenser give its height, width, et cetera. You can check to see if it will fit in your Rav4. E.g. see A/C Condenser 477-0568 Denso For Toyota RAV4 L4 2001-2005 | eBay . Amazon has a Denso for an even lower price, like $63.

Denso is a Japanese manufacturer that makes many of the OEM parts for Toyota, Honda, and many others. I buy Denso parts before shelling out big bucks for what is the same part at OEM part dealers.

At online OEM dealer part sites, here are some of the OEM part numbers that appear to be relevant:
88460-42070 -- designated for Rav4 models from August 2000 to June 2003. New online it sells for about $300 plus s/h.

88460-42090 -- for 2004 and 2005 Rav4s, with some other particularities. I think owners of 2004 and 2005 Rav4s need to do more research.

88460-AZ031 -- a part that is called "market value priced" and is much less expensive, designated for 2001 through 2005 models? Some sites say slightly different regarding which the years for which this part will work. New online it sells for about $105 plus s/h.

See toyodiy.com/parts . At the latter site, one can put in a part number and see on what models and sub-models the part is used. After putting in the part number and hitting "Enter," make sure you then click on the link under "Model."

My local discount salvage yard wants over $30 for a used condenser. Then one gets a small rebate for giving the yard one's vehicle's old, damaged condenser.
