How do you adjusts the volume of CarPlay phone and maps directions on the standard Ltd head unit? Compared to the volume of music when using CarPlay, the volume of directions and voice during phone calls is very low, and the volume knob on the unit and the steering wheel don’t affect it at all.

The volume on the phone turns up everything , just like the volume on the radio. On my GTI, adjusting the volume of a call during use only affects the call volume, and adjusting the volume of navigation when navigation is talking, only affects the volume of navigation. That’s what I’m looking to do because when riding down the road with iTunes playing music, navigation or phone calls are way too soft.

I use Waze for navigation. At first, it was entirely too loud and the car volume knob had no effect. Inside the Waze app there is a volume setting, which I set to 35%.

If any app volume is not to your liking I suggest you look at the app itself.

Reviving an oldie as I was trying to figure this out as well for us iPhone users, hope this helps others!
*Please keep in mind in your audio setting (High, Medium, Low) for ASL (automatic sound levelizer) in the audio "sound" settings, this feature adjusts to the optimum volume and tone quality according to vehicle speed to compensate for increased road noise, wind noise, or other noises while driving - by default Toyota has this set to Medium in '19 and '20 non-JBL speakers.

In Waze:
Navigate to settings > voice & sound > adjust slider volume to your preferred numerical setting.
40% for me

In Google Maps:
Open side menu > navigate to settings > navigation > select preferred guidance volume toggle
'softer' for me

In Apple Maps:
When connected to CarPlay it uses the current volume your Siri is set to on your device. You can fine tune this by issuing a Siri command pressing the command toggle on the steering wheel or holding the home button on the CarPlay screen and issuing the command: "change Siri volume to (x)%" - (x) being your preferred numerical setting ex: 40% for me.
additionally you have the option to change the default further by navigating to settings app on your iPhone > maps > driving & navigation > elect preferred navigation voice volume setting

Overall Siri voice for everything else:
