Just joined the forum as I bought a 2023 RAV4 Hybrid XLE this afternoon. One of the first accessories I need to get is a set of crossbars. I looked at the OEM crossbars and would prefer them to be flat not curved. Is there an aero crossbar that is flat that will fit the OEM side rails? Maybe something from Thule, Yakima or other companies. I'll mostly be hauling paddleboards which is why I'd prefer flat crossbars. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Thule has flat aero bars that work on a RAV. They’re called EVO wingbars. You can buy the parts separately and save a few bucks or buy the whole setup on Thule’s site. Below is a link to 2019+ rav4 with flush rails. I’m sure Yakima has something similar.

I received my 2023 Hybrid LE the other day with the cross bars. Like you, I think the curved shape is annoying. And they don't have T-slots either. My main use for the bars would be to transport sheet goods (plywood) and lumber. Flat bars would have been better suited for that. I'm going to see if I can clamp flat bars over the OEM bars when required for this purpose. I have several sets of bars from prior cars that I can use.

I agree and really can't figure out why the OEM crossbars have such a pronounced curve. They also do not look that well built but I haven't looked at them closely.

Not sure how you could clamp flat crossbars to the OEM ones. You would need to fabricate spacers at each end to make up for the curvature of the OEM crossbars. Even if that was done I'd be concerned about the stability especially with something heavy like plywood or lumber. Worth a shot though. If that setup failed you could do significant damage to your RAV4.

I'll most likely go with Thule or Yakima unless I find a similar style that might be a little less expensive.

I have the factory crossbars on our 2020 xle, use them all the time to haul bikes and other rec gear. They are metal and very sturdy.

Is this just a cosmetic concern, like you don't like the looks?

I've hauled a Yakima Skybox, bikes you name it. Everything attaches easily and the metal is quite sturdy and strong. Ordered mine online from a dealer.
