can someone please help!
Bought used rav4 '03 car in december with 8632 miles on it during winter time, equiped with a/c, lately during hot weather , noticed, a/c blowing warm air, toyota dealer refused to repair it, cause out of warranty ( 3 years is up). I feel this is not my fault, the dealer should be responsible to fix it, when i purchased the car dealer said a/c checked and work but i have no way to test if the a/c really work, at the time of car deliverd to me, weather was around 30. How do i know if they sell me car with a/c already broke to begin with?

My question to you :
1. what is my option at this point? can i fight this to get the dealer to fix it?
2. if not, can i fix it my own by getting freon kit sell at wallmart? or do i have to bring to auto air condition specialist to have them fix?

Your input greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

unfortunately.. it's long enough ago you bought it... and the warranty is up... there isn't much you can do to get the dealer to cover it

I would try to get the Re-charge kit and do it yourself... but if there is a leak in the system, it will have to be repaired, which will most li kely need a mechanic,
so you'll have to pay

repairing a A/C system can cost alot, it just depends on where the leak is :?

But you might get lucky. A regas may do the trick and everything will be fine. I regassed a Toyota once and the A/C was fine thereafter for many years. It's not really a lemon if it's only the A/C.

am i getting lemon car?

First time i noticed a/c not working around 3-4 weeks ago when the weather reached 80.

i complained to toyota customer relations, they said the car is out of warranty and nothing they can do to help, i have to pay out of my pocket to fix it.

that's not the point, the point is, the toyota dealer sell the car with defective a/c. I didnt expect the a/c will go bad because the car only has 8600 miles on it. Under the law of nj, what protection that guarantee consumer not being rip off? after certain miles or period of time, whichever come first maybe to warranty car they sell? i am going to investigate on that.

Any other comments or input , i greatly appreciated. thank you .

Did your dealer ever heard of the word Service ?

Ok, it´s out of warranty but he can take away ´a bad taste´ with a little help.
Maybe a 50/50 deal or a discount. Just ask him.

exactly.. the last thing they want is for you to start spreading a bad word about them to everyone you know, so try and discuss it withe Manager reasonably,
like DutchRav said... they might at least meet you halfway

No, the point is you only think they sold it with a defective a/c. Don't expect your a/c to go bad with 8600 miles? Did you turn it on periodically in the winter to keep the compressor lubed and keep it it from "going bad"? Nope. Otherwise you have figured out before June that the A/C is not working. Or better yet found a way to check major components of a used vehicle when you were buying it.

Well if I were buying a car with barely over 8000 miles on it from a dealer I would expect the A/C to work too

Though to be honest, whenever buying a car the first thing I check is the A/C.

Didnt the car come with any warranty from the dealer?
