Ok I found the ambient light sensor.
It's on the inside front-most part of the dash right next to the air vent on the left side where the window windshield meets the dash.
There's a small quarter sized dome shaped light sensor.
Tested and verified (covering/closing) with the light in Auto mode.

Why would you want to tap into it though?
I wanted to tap the footwell lighting into the same circuit so it lights up only at night.
The solution I used was to tap into the 10pin connector on the entune unit.
I found the "radio illumination" to be the same as the ambient light sensor.
It only turns on when it's night time with minimal sunlight. This solution works with the rest
of the cluster and dashboard lights turning on when it's dark.

When you say tap do you mean you'll design some high impedance sensing circuit? :wink
