I have a Google Pixel (most recent version of Android) and a 2017 XLE.

Sometimes when I get in my car the steering wheel controls and touch screen controls work (i.e. when listening to a podcast), other times I have to control using my phone.

It seems like a coin toss - except it works less often than it doesn't work.

I've tried deleting the phone, reconnecting, etc..

Any other people with this issue?

Try restarting the head unit. Either hold the power button til it resets or disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes. When you start the car (at least after the battery method) the HU should display a loading screen for a little bit, which is normal.

I'll give it a try!
