If have temp on Auto and reduce the temp settings so much lower than outside temp will AC come on automatically or need to press AC button? This is presuming AC button was not already lit.

If as above would AC button then light up or in Auto it does not do that?

Gonna test myself when better half back from out of town but figure folks here can give heads up.

You turn on the climate control by pressing Auto. Off turns it off. To use the A/C the button for it must be pushed and its LED lit. If climate control is turned on and A/C is off and you turn down the temp knobs way below the outside temp and THEN open up the fresh air intake (turn off recirculate) then that is how you use fresh air when it's cool enough that the A/C is not needed...use the fan speed up and down buttons to control it. If you have auto on and A/C on and shut off the RAV, when you restart it the A/C will still be on.

Auto will always use the A/C if needed and turn on the A/C light. Why call it Auto if you have to do anything manually?

Yup, exactly as you said.

Auto did not turn on AC even with several degrees temp differential
Just don't use auto, I never use auto, auto does not accomodate personal likings, like lo temp low fan, set temp and set fan, many different manual settings are more comfortable than what the auto selects. Auto also changes if it's on re-circ or not.

In some cases, auto is useful with the app so when you start vehicle remotely the AC comes on auto.

In the spring and fall where I live in the PNW the temperatures are moderate and I rarely use the A/C...just fresh air intake (without recirculate) and the fan. This will give you better MPGs since you are not running all the A/C rigamarole that puts an extra "load" on the ICE.
