I've used an aux input for years in my vehicles. I ALWAYS have the phone/ipod/whatever volume on max, then adjust the volume to taste on the head unit. If you have the volume down quiet on the mp3 player, it won't get enough signal to make it loud through your speakers, thus will be very quiet no matter how much you turn up the volume on your head unit.

Whoops, close! Sound Check is for normalizing songs so they are all roughly the same apparent volume level (instead of one song being quiet and the next being REALLY LOUD!). You still want to go to Settings > Music, but you want to adjust Volume Limit. Mine is currently set to Off, but you can set the maximum volume limit in the next sub menu. If it's not set to off, give that a try.

iOS 6 definitely has that setting in the same location. I'm looking at my old iPhone on iOS 6, and the Volume Limit is there in the same location. Not that this helps you any lol! Actually, is it just the Zune that is too quiet when the volume is at max, or is your iPhone too quiet too when at max and plugged into Aux?

Anything plugged into the aux jack is real quiet and both the source and my stereo need to be turned way up.

I'm not sure I'm understanding this part right. Are you saying if you turn the source all the way up it's ok but is real quiet if the source is down? Or are you saying that with the source at max volume it's still too quiet? I'm confused!

And it's like this whether you use the zune or iphone? I'm not sure what to suggest then. I've never had this problem. I had my iphone and blackberry z10 plugged in through aux on the stock deck before I got it, it was the same volume as anything else. On my aftermarket head unit, same thing. And that's the way it's always been for all the cars I've had that have had aux inputs. Multiple phones, ipods, or whatever. Maybe you have a defective aux input?

lmao! I dunno, I got into car audio over 20 years ago... and granted I didn't have cell phones and mp3 players to need an aux in way back when, but with the aftermarket stereos I've had and stock head units in cars that have had aux in, plus popping into friends cars, it's never once been an issue. Even with the RAV4 stock head unit. I'm honestly surprised to find you are having an issue. I could see one device not having a high enough signal, but multiple? I've also hooked up rca cables with a headphone jack to the line ins on my (high end) home stereo, the receiver at my trailer, and into a ghetto blaster; as long as the volume was max on my phone or ipod I have no issues with volume. Best of luck getting it sorted out, it's a shame you have to resort to an add-on piece just to be able to enjoy your music!

True, but you have to remember to turn it down before switching to another source or getting a very loud surprise! And if you have it cranked you likely have background hiss mixed in there too. All in all, would be nice to have proper input levels.
