Hello friends, I've got a 99 Rav4 AWD (5 spd) and have been swapped with the automatic transmission AWD (from a donor 97 Rav4).

Now the Rav drives smooth and nice, no problem at any gear but the reverse light (backup light) won't lit and the "R" on the cluster won't lit too.

Does any one know what the problem is? I'm also having trouble finding the backup light switch. Can't find it on top of transmission and nothing seems to be missing or unplugged.

Thank you

Thank you for your reply Lugnut. I've searched all 10 pages of your posts, the only part is mounted to the shifter is the Shift Lock Control ECU? Am I correct?

The automatic transmission uses the "park/neutral position switch", to detect what gear the selector is at. And to control the reverse lights.

Thank you so much Roundabout. I will take a look and see if it needs to be replaced. I will update the progress here.
