Good morning fellow members. My mother recently purchased a new rav4 and due to her age she requested to have the running boards installed so we installed them for her about a month ago. Well I haven't driven this vehicle until this morning and noticed that the BSM is not working and the BSM light is on.

Could it be that the running boards are causing an interference with the sensors? I've looked up and it says the sensors are on the rear bumper but I coupd be wrong. Has anyome had this issue or maybe it doesn't even have to do with the running boards?

Ill take them off this afternoon if possible to see if it is the problem to pass along he info to everyone. Any opinions are welcome and thanks in advance.

I'd have the dealer check out the BSM before I took the boards off !

I have turned on then off many times and when I turn on the BSM, the lights do come on on the sideview mirrors but then the BSM dash light comes on and stays on all the time which means there's a malfunction in the system.

I did take the running boards off and it did not fix the issue so the next thing to do is to schedule with the dealership to bring it in for them to see what could be wrong.

Ill keep you guys posted in case anyone runs into this problem. Thanks once again everyone!

Try an electrical reboot....either pull the fuse for a few seconds or disengage the battery cables then retry. Long shot but worth a try.

I would let the dealer fix it but I would think about getting the Techstream software and cable. It'll tell you what's wrong. I just like knowing that way when the dealer tells me what needed fixing I know if they are being honest.

My rav4 says blind spot malfunction. Dealer says I was hit in rear. No visible damage.
How do they know that instead of it just being a faulty unit or loose wire?

They are saying because it was hit, it is not covered by warranty.

I'd suggest sticking to your current thread
since I don't think you'll get any response from anyone on this nearly six year-old one. In fact to avoid confusion I'm gonna close this one.
