We just purchased a RAV4 for my wife.
I would like to get a bug deflector for it soon.

I installed a bug deflector on her 1997 CRV (purchased new) when we got it and I believe it's done a lot of good.

I want one that I do not have to drill holes for.
I also do not want one that installs with tape.

What is the OEM Toyota one like?

Are others better?

Is the appearance similar among the different types?

I appreciate any help you can give!

(I know the gen 1 CRV inside and out, but I know nothing about this gen 3 RAV4...)

Try WeatherTech, but you might want to wait a while if the Rav4 you just purchased is a 2009...other members on this forum have had problems getting the bug deflectors to fit their 2009's because Toyota apparently made some changes in the hood design beginning with the 2009. http://rav4world.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21205

FWIW, I have a WeatherTech bug deflector on my '07 and it's been great.

I have an '09 Limited and tried the WeatherTech.

Didn't fit twice and got a refund.

Got an OEM Toyota one for $90 and it has fit perfect.

I like my BeneVento hood guard ... had it for years now. There are 3 stick on clear vinyl bubbles that attach to the hood (or some have attached them on the back side of the deflector). They are just added protection. There is not a lot of space under it due to the aerodynamic design. I just take it off twice a year to wash and wax. This pic is after 80,000 miles and it's done a great job ...

If you look at my avatar you'll see the following deflector on the hood of my '09:

Auto Ventshade / Bug Deflector
For your 2008 Toyota Truck RAV4 4WD 2.4L SFI DOHC 4cyl

Price:
$49.99

AVAILABILITY:
SPECIAL ORDER
Visit your local store to special order.
Ships within 3-5 business days.
Part Number: 24139
Weight: 2.5 lbs
Notes: Smoke Bugflector II(R); full height;
Material: Molded plastic
Color: Smoke
Style: Wrap around
Drill/No Drill: No drill

The only trouble I had was a slightly mismatched hole pattern which I remedied without drilling - I believe I elongated 2 holes in the deflector to match up with the holes in the hood.

I've had no problems with this deflector since installation back in January! It was purchased from a local Autozone store - mine had to be special ordered (a 2 day wait).

I would like to see what a clear bra looks like after about 5-6 years, I have not seen window tint film look good after that amount of time especially in the heat in the Sacramento area where summer temps often exceed 100.

Will the 06-08 deflectors fit the 2009?

None of the sites I looked at listed one for a 2009 Rav4.

Also, is the OEM deflector the same as any of the aftermarket ones? Or is it unique to Toyota?
The OEM one is totally different.

OEM Hood Deflector questions

I've done a few different searches, trying to piece together information on the OEM deflector.

1. Back in 2006, it seems like the OEM hood deflector sold by dealerships was different in the U.S. as compared to Canada?

2. Is the U.S. version the same as Canada now (2009)?

3. Is there a long version and a short version? (If so, where can I see pictures?)

4. Is the hood and front of the 2009 RAV4 different from the previous years? (In other words....Does the 2006-2008 version fit a 2009?)

I don't know why someone keeps mentioning a problem with the Weathertech ones. I bought one 6 weeks ago, and was all worried it wouldn't fit. There was not a single problem with it. Sure it takes a few tries to get the buttons to sit down flat, but otherwise its fine.

I even called up Weathertech directly and asked them, and they said they've had maybe 3 or 4 out of 100's of these come back with any problem.

Definately recommend the Weathertech bug deflector - it's not as ghastly as the Toyota OEM one.

What kind of tint did you use? I had a 1996 Integra GSR which had the tint installed 2 months after I bought it. I had the car for over 6 years before I sold it to buy a house. The tint looked fine. The only complaint I had was where the window meets the seal (when you roll it up all the way). It was slowly "rubbing" the tint out.

Dunno but my clear bra is almost 3 years old and still looks fine.

In the pictures, it looks like there is a logo on the Weathertech. What exactly is that? And can it be removed?

Not sure what brand, both of my sons have had their car windows tinted and it is supposed to be a lifetime guarantee, they need to be redone....also this area is much hotter than San Francisco, 33 degrees hotter yesterday.

I ordered mine at Autozone. Auto Ventshade / Bug Deflector Smoke Bugflector II . The box states that is for 2006-2008 but it fits my 2009 perfect. I haven't put it to the test but it looks cool.
