I left my 2019 Hybrid running the other day at lunch. Got out of the car. Closed the door and did not hear the beep. Didn't notice the dashboard lit up. Its so quiet and with traffic its hard to hear the beep. Any way to make it louder or any other way to make sure its off? Especially in the garage?

That particular warning beep might be controlled by the general beep volume setting, you'll have to try it and see. Its in the customization settings I think, and is meant to control how loud the beep is when you lock or unlock doors.

FWIW, if you had tried to lock it, it would have refused and beeped some more.

thanks. It was up to a 5 and the max was 7. I turned it up. Not much difference. I guess I will have to turn up my hearing aid.

Or just always lock it! Been doing that for almost 60 years, never caused a problem yet, with or without my hearing aids. :)

The beeps are somewhat directional and certainly not loud enough. But what you're talking about w/ keyless entry/start and walkaways while on is definitely a problem. I've seen several articles about people (usually older) that have succumbed to CO poisoning after parking the vehicle in their garage and then having an ADD moment, leaving the car running with the keys in their pocket, etc. and eventually having enough CO make it into their living space to kill them.

If left a parked hybrid is left on/running, the ICE will eventually start to recharge the battery, correct? At least it will cycle on and off vs running continuously. Either way, car manufacturers are going to need to address this. In the meantime, you and others will have to consider it important enough to verify every time you leave the vehicle, be it a little sticker on your dash, etc. or always locking it when you get out. Pretty much like a post flight checklist.

The 2020 has Auto Shut Off.

■Automatic hybrid system shut
off feature
●The vehicle is equipped with a
feature that automatically shuts off
the hybrid system when the shift
lever is in P with the hybrid system
operating for an extended period.
●The hybrid system will automatically
shut off after approximately 1
hour if it has been left running
while the shift lever is in P.
●The timer for the automatic hybrid
system shut off feature will reset if
the brake pedal is depressed or if
the shift lever is in a position other
than P.
●After the vehicle is parked, if the
door is locked with the door lock
switch (P.132) from the inside or
the mechanical key (P.663) from
the outside, the automatic hybrid
system shut off feature will be disabled.
The timer for the automatic
hybrid system shut off feature will
be re-enabled if the driver’s door
is opened.

■Automatic engine shut off feature
●The vehicle is equipped with a
feature that automatically shuts off
the engine when the shift lever is
in P with the engine running for an
extended period.
●The engine will automatically shut
off after approximately 1 hour if it
has been left running while the
shift lever is in P.
●The timer for the automatic engine
shut off feature will reset if the
brake pedal is depressed or if the
shift lever is in a position other
than P.
●After the vehicle is parked, if the
door is locked with the door lock
switch (P.112) from the inside or
the mechanical key (P.653) from
the outside, the automatic engine
shut off feature will be disabled.
The timer for the automatic engine
shut off feature will be re-enabled
if the driver’s door is opened.

That's handy. You would think that they would use a sensor on the driver's seat as well though. No driver after 1/2 hour? Turn engine off. Seems like the ACC function after 20 minutes is overkill and would be annoying at times. Like when you're washing your car and listening to the radio, etc.

It's gonna be annoying just like auto S/S, and extremely annoying for campers and others that want to generate power or leave the vehicle running/on for AC.

If the vehicle is left in ACC for more than 20 minutes or ON (the engine is not running) for more than an hour with the shift lever in P, the engine switch will automatically turn to OFF. However, this function can-not entirely prevent battery dis-charge. Do not leave the vehicle with the engine switch in ACC or ON for long periods of time when the engine is not running.
What you have quoted has nothing to do with the ICE or shutting off the ICE. Its also nothing new. Its only about the "ACC" and "On" modes. The ICE only runs in "Ready" mode. This is only about protecting the 12v battery from running down in On and ACC modes.

Correct, wrong citation, but both HV and gas models have auto shut off.
