2011 4-cylinder, sport. Replaced front driver wheel bearing with ~$60 one from auto store. Destroyed the wheel speed sensor in the process. Replaced twice with cheap online sensors, and eventually had the toyota dealer change it out. In all cases the ABS would randomly kick in when driving. Hooked it up to a code reader while driving and could see the wheel speed intermittently drop to 0. Don't know where to go from here. What does the sensor sense? Is there a tone ring? Is it something in the bearing? Should I change the bearing again?
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Make sure you got the right hub. Some come with the tone ring, and some do not.
