I recently plugged a phone charger into my 2007 Rav4 Sport's cigarette lighter adapter and blew the fuse. Upon investigation I realized that my phone charger is drawing 2.1 amps but the fuse for the Rav4 is apparently only 1.5 amps, so it makes sense why it blew.

My question is, can I safely replace the blown fuse with a higher amp rated fuse? If so, how high could I safely go? 3 amp? 5 amp?

Thanks for the advice!

No need for a flashlight--all the fuses are color coded. A 15A fuse is always blue, 10A is red, and so on.

Thanks for all of the help, everyone! After a quick stop at the auto parts store, a few awkward contortions in the parking lot to get access to fusebox #3 under the dash, and I am back in business! (Pic attached)

I know you posted this 4 years ago, however, I thought I'd still say thank you. I've been online bouncing from one site/video to the next trying to find a simple way to change my lighter fuse. This thread helped me so much which is the reason I've signed up for this site.

Thank you for your post/update (though 4 years ago). This has helped me to know what I need to do for my own fuse/lighter power issue.
