I’m posting this about my dads vehicle to try and help him figure out what he can do to fix his car. He has an 07 RAV4 with the 6 cylinder engine. He went to jump it the other day and connected the cables to the wrong terminals. This lead to all the lights on his dash to come on and his car still wouldn’t start. He then purchased a new battery installed it and his car will run but anytime you press on the gas pedal it sputters out and has no power to it. He managed to idle it down the road to a shop and the mechanic checked the computer codes and the only thing coming back is a throttle body code. He ordered 3 different throttle bodies directly from Toyota all of which were the incorrect one. The ones he received had 3 ports and the one on there now is a 4 port throttle body. He tried installing the ones they sent anyways just to see if it would work and it didn’t. After that he gave up working on it and asked my dad to pick up his truck and get it figured out somewhere else. So what I’m asking is has this happened to anyone else. If you’re knowledgeable in working on vehicles could it be something other than the throttle body. My plan now is to go pull a throttle body from a junk yard so that i can make sure it has 4 ports and try to put that on but any information will be appreciated in the mean time. I don’t want to go waste money if i don’t have to.

Waste of time and money regarding the throttle body. Problem resulting from reversed polarity cables normally is blown fuses, including those in the engine compartment.

Mechanic has checked every fuse and relay in the vehicle all of them were fine he says. Idk seems to me like that would be the issue as well that’s the point of the fuses being there. My dad is just going to waste more money and have Toyota diagnose the issue and then whatever it is he’s going to fix it. I don’t live near him i wish i was able to go check the fuses myself cause i don’t trust that mechanic.

Did the mechanic check the fuse link ? That one is the main fuse which is very difficult to get to and I bet that mechanic does not know anything about it. The fuse box needs to be dismantled to check it.

Agree with the others. Don’t trust the “mechanic”, check ALL the fuses yourself. The main fusible link, probably 75-100A rating, is likely blown along with a handful of other random ones. Daughters with dumb boyfriends teach all about this kind of thing.

There are 3 fuse boxes, 2 under the hood and 1 under the dash. Make sure he checked them all.
