I recently purchased a 2015 XLE after owning a 2008 Base model for 6 years. In the '08 car, I was able to turn up the dash lights during the day (no headlights on) to see the speedo better. In my new car, that doesn't work. Turning the dimmer wheel doesn't seem to do anything if the headlights are off.

Did Toyota change how the dimmer works, am I missing something, or is there something wrong with my current car?

Your 2008 came with Optitron gauges, as did all RAV4's from 2006-2012. Toyota dropped them in 2013 as a cost saving measure. Lexus still gets the Optitron gauges, and they had them on the Tundra Limited at one time.
