Toyota is advising of the need to set-up the DCM (Data Communication Module) on my brand new 2020 Rav4. I am wondering about what work is involved at my dealership to achieve this. What actions are required? How long will it take to perform these actions? I am told the DCM set-up is required (along with the activation of Smart Key functions) to make the car fully operational and connected to Toyota electronic services such as their SOS system. Thanks!

I've seen people around here being concerned about their privacy around DCM.
I'm an European citizen and I'd say that if Toyota does something wrong with the data they collect, they'll be struck with huge fines.
So for the moment, I trust DCM is non-invasive and I know this will be a mandatory feature in a lot of regions in the future.
I don't know how much they'll need to activate DCM

Here's the basic process, some things may have changed and you don't need the apps unless you want to use them, Remote Connect app still works, but Toyota app which is a more recent offering is better. Entune 3.0 app and Scout GPS are only required if you want to use their features.
