I live in Northern New England and a warm car is important in the winter. I set all of my defrost controls, heat, fan speed before I turn my car off. The next morning when I use my remote start only the heat level and fan speed are the same as when I turned the car off. The front and rear defrosters are turned off. Is there a way to get the car to save these settings? It’s kind of pointless to have remote start if I can’t defrost my windows without going out to my car.

The rear window/side mirror defog should stay on if it's below freezing, I haven't tested it that cold yet.

I just purchased a 2019 limited. I have the Toyota app installed to activate remote start. Works fine.. however I cannot get the defrost (front and rear) to come on when I activate the remote start. I have set the settings for both defrosters prior to turning off the vehicle thinking the...

Mine come on even if off when I shut the car down the night before. I start it up before taking daughter to school and windows are de-iced and ready to go. Only thing I've found is that 10 minute run time is sometimes not enough to warm the car up, but at least it gets the ice off the windows without me having to scrape.

You can’t. It is a safety feature to prevent someone else from getting in your car and driving off.

What about an after market remote starter?

Not true. Other OEMs implement auto start that the car stays on after the door is opened.

To put the car in gear; the key fob must be present inside the car and driver must push the car brake and press the start button {car is already on}.

An aftermarket automatic start does the same thing. The minute you open the door, it shuts off which is the crazy because other auto manufacturers allow the car to continue to run when the door is opened.

I am used to the shutdown. My Acura and my old is350 did that. Maybe one day Toyota will change it.

ugh that is annoying. my other vehicles, remote start can do hand over, doors remain locked, and fob must be in car.

i am looking at some slightly used 2020 rav4. do they all have OEM remote start or do i need to look for a specific add-on/package?
