I just returned from taking our RAV on a 1750 mile road trip to Utah and back. She did great. Sustained 80mph+ and it returned 25mph+. On one particularly hard and long climb she was stuck in 3rd gear for a couple of seconds longer than I would have liked. Got a little mud on the tires on the Notom-Bullfrog and Burr trail routes near Lake Powell. Was able to buy ethanol free 88 which returned better mpgs and did 85 oct. Love our RAV.

85mph with headwinds = 3rd gear. I did a Los Angeles -> Utah earlier this year and yeah... Plus I'm lifted with oversized All terrain tires.
Hey I also noticed better MPG when using higher octane. Glad I'm not the only one.

I think the opposite. Better MPG with lower Octane and non-ethanol gas.

I think that might be due to higher speed highway travel. Low octane is good with higher piston speeds - low incidence of knocking. Just a thought.
