Its attached to your bumper I think and beeps when you are getting close to something.

Is it any good? Do you recommend?

It's great.

I find that when I back up towards another car, I lose site of their bumper when I am still more than 12' away. I know most people are able to manage, but I think it would be almost impossible to back this vehicle up close to something without the help of the beepers, or a rear view camera.

I can get within a foot of the other car when the beeper goes on continuously.

I had mine installed at the dealers for over $400, but you can order kits to install them yourself for $100 or even less.

I see you're a canadian to....where would you buy them? I am near Toronto but like...Canadian Tire or something?
Just do a Google search for "backup Sensor".

Here is the results of an Ebay search.

Some of the models include bar graph displays which are mounted on the dashboard. Others simply hook up to a small module which is powered from the backup lights. This means that no wiring needs to be run to the front of the car, and the system turns on automatically when the car is put into reverse. This type of installation only provides a series of beeps which change frequency as an object gets closer. This is the way the Toyota system works.

All I can say about 'parking assist' is, "I shoulda."

It will get installed along with the new rear bumper.
Ouch... I've been itching to get it installed but I just don't trust the car audio toy shops around. Ran by kids. I don't want them closing one eye and line it up by counting finger distance.

Also make sure you get at least the 4 sensor system one. You want to protect the corner of the bumpers too. I'm going to ask them to take the spare tire into account so that the virtual rear bumper is going to do a solid beep around 4-5 inches back.

Wow Toyota wants 400 something and on ebay they are 30 bucks? If I can figure out how to install those suckers I'm a happy man. I have a flint mica RAV so black wouldn't be so bad
A little touch up paint on the sensors should make it same color as the car.

I would definitely get backup sensors on a SUV. Especially if you have any doubts about your ability to judge vehicle size.

But you can't paint over the entire thing. You need at least a pinsized opening for the sensor to work.

"Ouch" is right. Get the dealer job if you have to, it's cheaper than a bumper.

I will be getting some kind of sensor arrangement after the new bumper. All that I've seen come with four sensors.

I had mine installed by the dealer before I took delivery.
It's wonderful (but expensive).
I decided to go with the Arctic White Rav4, and in our email exchanges (it's a long story, so I won't go there) the salesman told me that the Parking Pilot was not available for the Arctic White. I said I would like the black one. Presto! I think it looks great.

Back up sensor-Radar

I have the Guardian Alert radar sensor on my RAV4. You can get them on Ebay for $100. Works great, installs behind the bumper with velcro and no holes in bumper. Takes about an hour to install. You get power and signal from reverse light wire at rear of trucklet. Goes green, yellow and then red and starts to beep at 1 foot.

The also have models that plug into trailer hitch in place of ball mount.
Had it for 18 months or so now and love it.

… parking-assist is dated technology… i refuse to drill holes in my bumper to install… besides, once someone bangs into you… you might as well kiss that sensor goodbye… "it’s a bumper people"… best to go with a LCD review mirror monitor with a license plate mounted camera or other aftermarket units… prices are competitive with park assist units… $400 is pricey...

Beeper bash

A big advantage to the Guardian Alert radar type sensor is that it is foward of your bumper and cannot be damaged in a bumper bump unless it is a real bad crash thing.

That and no holes in the bumper was the primary reason I bought it. Also if you sell the car it takes 15 minutes to remove it and no holes left.

Damn... I've been looking for those. What the heck did you type into eBay search to find it? I'd totally do this over the drilling the sensors I have now.

cannot find it

I bought mine in Oct. 2006. I did look on Ebay last night and could not find the rader alert thing. Lots of the ultra sound ones say "radar" but they are not.

Google around and also set up a favorite search on ebay for back up and Guardian and you should eventually find one.

I saw them online for $175 once also.

Good luck
